Will I see an angel again?

So every morning its the same story for me, get up, brush my teeth, hit the shower, spray some AXE and an Angel falls through my roof. Yesterday though, after I sprayed, nothing happened. Sure my insurance company would be happy they didn't have another claim from me but why was there no angel???

I dug a bit deeper to try and find out why no heavenly body greeted me that morning and to much surprised I learnt that the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) have decided to ban the advert due to a complaint of it being offensive to certain religious groups. Err...seriously? I mean, they're angels just seeking the heavenly scent of AXE, its not like they're burning religious scriptures. Anyway, decision has been made and the advert pulled from our screens hence the angels are very unhappy and very sorry for what has happened. If you never seen the advert before, firstly were you under a rock or something??? Secondly, here go:

Axe them self have released and official apology for this, and it goes a little something like this:

AXE Apology For "Fallen Angels" Advert

On the 26th October, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) passed a ruling upholding a consumer complaint against our latest TV advert and ordered the commercial pulled from the air. The advert, showing Angels succumbing to the seductive smell of our new fragrance, AXE Excite, and falling to earth to pursue the great smelling AXE Man, was part of a global campaign and has been received with great enthusiasm around the world. The Angels have made quite an impact in South Africa, and popular news, content and social media portals were quick to report on the ruling.

AXE South Africa respects the ASA’s decision and apologises to any consumers who may have been offended by the advert. That was never our intention. The advert has been duly removed from mass broadcast and we have resorted to showcasing some international versions of the advert on our private brand channels, including www.facebook.com/axesouthafrica, where consumers opt-in for the type of tongue-in-cheek, sexy and sometimes edgy content AXE is known for.

As a show of good faith to those concerned, we have also made sure the seriousness of the matter is understood by our Angels, who will from now on try their very best to resist the seductive powers of The AXE Effect. To those AXE Men who have used, and who are continuing to use AXE Excite in the hope of seducing Angels, please note - whilst there is no individual danger of disciplinary action from the ASA, the Angels have been known to come in at quite a speed, and the use of AXE Excite is completely at your own risk.

Due to the incredible amount of support we have received in the press and through social media, we have invited everyone to have their say on our Facebook page. So what do you think? Would you like the Angels to keep falling? Let us know.

And don’t worry, the Angels are still permitted to host their Cloud 9 party on December 3rd, so if you haven’t already entered our competition for exclusive VIP tickets, then make sure you go to www.facebook.com/AxeSouthAfrica to enter.

Ends

Issued by Gorilla Creative Media on behalf of AXE South Africa

So if you want to see these heavenly bodies continue their fall to earth to search for the best smelling AXE men, you know what to do! Hit their facebook page and get voting so we can see these again on earth.

Peace out and long fall the angels!

From Joburg to Soweto

Lets call this a social media experiment, 4 guys, 1 car, set for one epic road trip to see the Kings of Leon's in Joburg this coming weekend (29th October 2011). All four of us, quite prominent on twitter, namely @NevinSP @iAvish_Karr and @coaxel and all have our own blogs, well besides Avish. Our attempts at getting a sponsored car *cough* Evoque *cough* have proved fruitless seeing that none of us are members of "the guild of SA motor journalists" even though it would have been a perfect for the brand seeing that we would tweet about our experiences in the car, plus a little publicity never hurt any brand (BTW any car manufacturer still keen, hit us up!)

Anyway, here's the story. All 4 of us are from Durban, the East Coast of South Africa, passionate Sharks supporters and attended this past weekends semi final against the Cheetahs at Kings Park.We were hoping Western Province had beaten the Lions so we could have had a home final but in actual fact, things worked out for the better. As it stands we will be in Joburg the same weekend as the Lions host the Sharks in the final of this years Currie Cup. Kick off for the game, 5pm. Concert starts at 8pm. The game takes roughly 2 hours to play out and add to that the Sharks celebrations (see what I did there) of another 30-40 minutes, it leaves us with very little time to get to Soccer City on time to see the Kings of Leon. In any case it would be stupid to leave so late. What are the options?

1) Train: I'm not very sure of the routes but I think there is a station near Ellis Park, this would be ideal seeing as we wont get caught in traffic and there is a station outside Soccer City. The downside is I know for a fact there wont be a train going straight there and we may have to jump off at certain stations. Risky for 4 guys from Durban in the heart of Joburg.

2) Helicopter: Now I know this is far fetched but think of it? After the game, a helicopter is waiting for us, then takes us to Soccer City in a matter of minutes. No traffic, no transit, no swapping trains. Its perfect! Problem is, who the hell has a chopper?! This is where we need YOUR help!

Want to see this epicness happen? Spread the word, see if some rich dude has a chopper to spare? We will tweet our way through. Box tickets at Ellis Park wouldn't be bad too but for now the chopper is good enough.

LETS MAKE THIS HAPPEN PEOPLE!
SHARKS FOREVER!

The Outlandish Rover

Land Rover Defender
Land Rover, the company that's most famous for its SUV's than its clothing range (thankfully) has in the past decade or more taken a turn for the better. When I was a young child I never really took note of the brand seeing that the original Defender didn't strike the average kid as a "cool" car to have. It was boxy, boring and ugly. What it offered the off road enthusiast was way more than that though. As till today it still remains one of the best off road vehicle to have.

Ranger Rover Sport

Now after BMW acquired Land Rover in the 90's it set about to build a compact SUV to attack a new portion of the market, to which the Freelander was born. It did really well seeing it was Europe's best selling 4 wheel drive model till 2002, so it was then they decided to revive another one of its models the Range Rover. One wouldn't call it "compact" but it was smaller than the Discovery and Defender but offered more luxury and sportiness than the other two. The revised Range made its debut in James Bond: Tomorrow Never Dies, and from that model another variant was made.  The Range Rover Sport offered the person in the market for an SUV all what the standard Range offered and a whole lot more in terms of power with its 4.2 ltr engine pushing out 390bhp!

Land  Rover LRX Concept

Almost 7 years had passed since the launch of the Range Rover Sport and ownership of Land Rover had changed hands during that time to India's Tata Motor cooperation. Now given the product line up from Tata one wouldn't expect master pieces to roll of LR's factory but the world was in for a surprise when they show cased their LRX Concept at NAIAS 2008. I was lucky enough to see the concept model at JIMS 2008. It had characteristics of the Freelander along with the sportiness of the Range Rover but it was just a concept and people were skeptical on whether it would make it into production.

Range Rover Evoque
In 2010 Land Rover announced that it would put the LRX concept into production and it would fall under the Range Rover category as the SUV "Evoque". The production model is available in both 3 and 5 door models and has 2 engines to chose from. What astounds me the most about this vehicle is that when a manufacturer makes a concept, that compared to the actual production model is normally worlds apart. With this one, Land Rover kept the car almost 100% the same as the LRX. In terms of styling of the exterior I don't think they've changed a thing. Hence once on the road it would be one of the most eye catching cars around.

Range  Rover Evoque
Its come in for some stick, even prior to its launch in the country, yes the price tag is high with it starting at almost R600K. I personally think its reasonable seeing what you getting compared to other SUV's in the market. Firstly the design, I don't think that there is any other SUV that can even compare to this one. It is just stunning in every angle you look at it. Yes, some might say its just an over priced fashion accessory and Victoria Beckham had a hand in the styling. So what? You have the cash, might as well splurge and look good while doing it. Its the same reason people buy expensive watches, expensive suits, they look good and you know its quality that you're buying. The Land Rover name is strong world wide so you know its not some cheap Chinese knock off. Locals will only get to purchase this car at the begining of November as the Evoque makes it South African debut at the Joburg Motorshow which is currently on at the MTN Expo center in Nasrec. Over all Im glad we have the Evoque in production and would love to drive one some day but for now every time I see one drive past me I cant help but feel a little envious.

Interior of the Evoque
Lets have one last look at it... its worth it.
