Bucket Babe: Tamika Doubell

Its Bucket Babe time again and this weeks featured model is Tamika Doubell. Although modelling isn't her main passion, she has reached success in this field - having been chosen to represent South Africa at the Top Model Worldwide competition recently held in London.  She took part in Top Billings presenter search and made it quite far into the competition. Unluckily she didn't end up being chosen but just from the auditions you could see the energy she had in front of the camera and her charisma that instantly captures your attention. In fact, she has an interview coming up with them this weekend where they will be catching up with her since the last time they saw her, as well as ask her advice for this years current Presenter Search hopefuls. So be sure to watch Top Billing to catch her in a few weeks when it airs! Not only does she look good in front of the camera she also has the papers for it, as she mentions her degree in Film & Media. She has done a fair bit of modeling as well as own her own business but I'll let her tell you more about that...

Tamika Doubell

I was born & bred in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I Graduated from the University of Cape
Town (UCT) in 2009 with a degree in Film & Media Production. I’m currently living and
working in Cape Town in the Film & industry as an Actress, Voice-over
Artist, Event MC and Business Owner. I do model when I have time, it’s a fun way to
make some extra money! The business which I recently started with my brother and a few
shareholders is called “SkyBok”.

SkyBok utilises Google Maps to display location and information on local points of interest,
providing video profiles of venues to gain more insight into what they are about. It’s primarily
an online business, it’s URL is “skybok.net”. I travel all over the country to shoot. Some of
my clients include The Mount Nelson Hotel, The Two Oceans Aquarium, Pezula Resort
Hotel & Spa, Simonsig Wine Estate, the Humewood Links golf course and various other
well-known venues. I started it with my brother and a few shareholders. I edit everything
myself and record all the voice-overs in studio with well-known sound-engineer Frank Smuts.
The website went live for the first time last month and so it’s a very exciting time! I am in the
process uploading all the videos.

I have begun a blog about my life which I am really enjoying! I find blogging to be very
rewarding and satisfying!

MY TOP BILLING SHOW REEL:

MY AGENT - ACTING, PRESENTING, MC'ING, VOICE OVER WORK
http://www.samanthabernhardi.com/

Career Highlights

- I was a Grand Finalist recently in “Top Model Worldwide 2012”. It was a massive
competition held in London at The Hilton Metropole in March and it was an incredible
experience for me!

- I was in the Top 6 of the “Top Billing Presenter Search 2010”. For the show, we travelled
all over the country and also to Mauritius. I got to Bungee-jump in Soweto which was
exhilarating to say the least!

-I MC various parties & events in Cape Town and around the Eastern Cape. Some of my
favourites which have stood out for me have been the SKYYVODKA Pool Party at The Cape
Milner Luxury Hotel, the Traffic Winter Collection Fashion Show at The Loop Nightclub, the
FCM Fashion Show at ZAR nightclub as well as the Varsity College Fashion Show at ZAR
nightclub….also the Fashion With Purpose Fashion Show in affiliation with UCT last year,
held at one of my favourite theatres, The Baxter Theatre in Cape Town. I'm also very excited to be MC'ing the upcoming 'Help Save Elephants' cause at Cavendish square! A two day Artjamming paint-a-thon with kids from Reach for a Dream, in association with Younique Concepts.

- I do a great deal of Voice work for radio and television e.g. for Axe Deodrant,
SKYYVODKA, Netcare, ComeDine, Chevrolet and so on.

- I enjoy acting in films and commercials, such as the Hollywood blockbuster Deathrace 3:
Inferno which recently shot in Cape Town. I was Olga’s Pit Crew and we shot on location
here in CT last year. My first exposure to films was when I was an extra on the sets of
Disgrace starring John Malkovich and Invictus with Matt Damon & Morgan Freeman. That
was while I was still studying my degree at UCT so I couldn’t afford the time to go into acting
full time. The British TV series The Great British Story was something else I did over this
past season, where we shot on location here in CT. It was a great experience! A recent
French campaign for Fortuneo Bank in Paris (TV commercial) was also very memorable!
And a big commercial I did for Thorpe Park Theme Park up in UK was one of the more fun
ones and I actually saw it on TV while I were there for the ‘Top Model Worldwide’ last month!

- Top Billing’s Presenter Search on SABC3 in 2010 was really what catapulted me into this
career path and exposed me to the world of television. It gave me a wonderful insight into
presenting and I learnt valuable skills, which I would use if was ever called upon to present
again. Before that, I was living in Port Elizabeth and my only exposure to presenting was a
gig I did for Bay TV here in the Eastern Cape where I interviewed the band Evolver One for a
special they were doing.

- I’m the brand ambassador for Longstreet Fashion Boutique in CT – Long Street,
Cavendish, Tyger Valley and Canal Walk (www.longstreetboutique.com) and also FCM – a
couture fashion label with offices in Loop Street.

I am very big on social responsibility. In terms of giving back, I work with the Rotary Club of
Algoa Bay. Have a look at my most recent blog article on all my charity work, for the names
of the charities I am involved with and also for photos you may want -HTTP://tamikadoubell.com/2021/05/02/photo-gallery-of-charities-ive-come-into-contact-with/

One charity event that stands out for me is a ‘Royal Tea’ which was held last year in
association with The Rotary Club of Algoa Bay and Yokhuselo Haven for abused women.
We got the famous British milliner Philip Treacy himself to donate a hat and had it auctioned
off. Proceeds were given to the charity. He is the milliner to the likes of Kate Middleton,
Victoria Beckham, Princess Beatrice and so on, so it was a huge accomplishment that we
were able to auction off this piece!

Something I am focusing a lot on now is giving motivational talks to under-privileged
children. I gave a talk recently at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University as part of
Engen’s Saturday School Program which holds Saturday classes for learners from the
townships all over the country. I will be continuing to work with Engen on this project in Cape
Town & Johannesburg.

A cool page on my blog, which might be nice for you to check out, has photos of me with
some really noteworthy people I have met along the way through my work - including Scott
Eastwood, Danny Trejo, Noeleen from 3talk and Desmond Tutu himself! I call it the “Wall of
Fame”

Here is the link: Gallery

I am very grateful to UCT for the excellent education I recieved while obtaining my degree - a B/A Film and Media Production. Knowing how all the behind the scenes works, its made it somewhat easier when I perform in front of the camera (or microphone). Also those skills I learnt in editing and other post-production essentials are coming in very useful now with Skybok!

Q&A:

1. Hot girls and hot cars go hand in hand, what ride would you like to see yourself in?
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 - nice choice!

2. What sandwich are you most likely to make for me? and will it be toasted or plain?
Sandwich? Sies! Is that the best you can do? Honestly Amith, reach a bit higher. ..- Im a simple guy ;-)

3. What type of music gets your booty shaking?
Anything with a good beat.

4. Dream cover shoot?
Vogue.

5. If modelling wasn’t an option, what career would you have most like to get in to?

Hehe! Modelling isn’t my career. I don’t take it seriously. I do it on the side for fun.
It’s a nice way to make some extra money! It’s not a viable career unless you’re
a certain height. I’m in the Film & Entertainment industry as an Actress, Voice-
over Artist, Event MC and Business Owner. It’s going phenomenally and I’m
really enjoying it - I’ve always had that entrepreneurial quality about me, so it’s no
surprise that I’m delighting in it all! If that wasn’t an option I would go into my family’s
business… Brick-Making Machinery. We own Doubell Machines & Equipment. Our
Factory, Showroom and Head office is in Port Elizabeth. I would start a non-profit
organisation. I might still.

Different role-models for different things. I like Scarlett Johansson – her look, her energy,
her work. And then (even though he’s a dude) Ryan Seacrest! For his brain! He
knows how to make money in this industry, that’s for sure.

9. Obviously being a female you would love fashion, favourite label/ designer?

Givenchy.

10. Which city is your dream party destination?

Ibiza.

Partying with the Bunny

Playboy bunnies with Kate Lovemore, Jade Fairbrother and Lee Ann Roberts
On May 20th I was invited to Playboy SA's 1st anniversary party which was held at Boulevard in Durban. It was the magazines 2nd party in Durbs and I'm not quite sure why they don't have more of them here! The party was a special occasion since not only was it their 1st anniversary but it was also in celebration of the May cover girl and good friend of mine Lee-Ann Roberts. As you may remember she was announced as cover girl at the end of April, so this was a party I was not going to miss!

Lee Ann signing a fans copy
Also present at the Party were Kate Lovemore (Miss March Playmate) , Jade Fairbrother (Playmate of the year for 2012) and plenty of Playboy bunnies! I arrived a tad bit late for the party since I had been to the rugby earlier but it seems I arrived just in time as the signing session was just completed and the girls were ready to get their groove on. Being on the guest list and having access to the VIP area meant no queues and flowing of drinks.

Lee-Ann and myself
Bumped into many people I knew via twitter, including the stunning Alexis Fox and my bro's from the West of the Ville, @Chilternburt and @Legsleary who made a lot of the night a one to remember. Overall the party was a huge success and having Durbans first cover girl party in her home town was great to see.

My signed copy!
Besides being a friend, I always have and always will be a massive fan of Lee-Ann, told her on numerous occasions she's bound for big things. Here's hoping this is just the tip of the iceberg babe!

World Baking Day

As mentioned before in my blog, I cook BUT I don't bake. I'm not sure what it is but I just never had the passion to bake a cake or cookies for that matter. This all changed last Friday as a Stork paid me a visit... No it didn't bring a baby but rather a box filled with baking goodies. Odd that I would receive all this and a note that was attached explained why. Sunday, 20th May was deemed "World Baking Day" so the awesome guys down at Stork decided to send off these boxes of baking goodies to a select few blogger's to celebrate the day and get creative and to tweet their cakes to @ILoveBakingSA using the hashtag #caking

that's not me...
In my box was a cake (thank goodness since I've never baked a cake before), a block of Stork margarine, a packet of icing sugar, a limited edition World Baking Day apron and loads of decorative sugary treats!
Seeing that the cold front graced Durban that weekend, I wanted something to warm me up but at the same time be an awesome tasty treat. "Dom Pedro" popped in my head for some reason. So I stuck with that theme. I sliced the cake in half and made a mixture of Kahlua and warm water which a spread over the cut sponge. topped it off with some cream, cherries and chocolate sprinkles.

cut in half.
Now for the icing! Using half the block of stork margarine, I mixed it with 2 cups of icing sugar till it turned fluffy white. In a bowl I mixed 1/4 cup of boiling water with 2 teaspoons of coffee granules. I added that mixture to the icing as well as a tea spoon of vanilla essence. I continued to mix the icing until it turned a light brown colour, not knowing if it was ready, I had to do a taste test....then control myself from not eating all of the tasty coffee flavoured cream.

As a kid I watched my mom bake 100's of cakes and ice them with ease, trust me, that shit is harder than it seems and icing this cake proved to be a challenge! I decided to decorate the cake with the given treats but it with my shoulders ready to give up after a round of golf things didn't turn out the way I wanted it too. Over all, I was impressed with myself for what I had accomplished, even though the end product didn't look that great, it tasted superb!

Bucket Babe: Basia Tyrkalska

This weeks Bucket Babe is a special friend of mine, not sure how but she always seems to be flying below the radar of everyone and in such doesn't get the credit she deserve. Of recent though, she has been getting a few breaks, landing shoots in the USA and partying with Mr Playboy himself, Hugh Hefner! Not only is she stunningly beautiful but she's also quite the brain box as well and like me, a takes a keen interest in the property and construction world. Being of Polish decent, her surname is a mouthful but when you see her, your jaw should drop down so you can get it all in!

Basia Tyrkalska

Wity, fun, kind, animal lover those are few words that describe me.
Born and raised in Poland, schooled in Germany and later in South Africa. Completed my Bcom honors in Economics.
Photoshoots are one of my passions and my life. Charities especially animal charities are close to my heart. (remember to drop off blankets and food at SPCA or your local animal shelters to keep their hearts warm)

Farewell to the King

Kenny presented as manager
Today, at approximately 5pm UK time Liverpool Football Club announced that the club had parted ways with its manager Kenny Dalglish. King Kenny as he is fondly known to many was brought in an emergency situation to help steer the club to safety after what could only be described as a disastrous start of the season by Roy Hodgson. Roy, who was employed by the old regime failed badly and with new owners growing increasingly impatient, along with the fans there was no other option but to terminate his contract. Kenny was called in as a temporary replacement. He did well by guiding the club to a 6th place finish, after such a horrendous start, a place outside the top 10 looked well on the cards. Kenny was rewarded with a contract extention for his good work and so begun the 2011/12 season.

John Henry
The season which can be described as a lot of things, didn't turn out to be our finest. Even though we ended up with silverware (unlike other "big clubs"), our league position and home record were major causes for concern. Hence after the season ended, he was called up to Boston by the owners for meetings. There was tons of speculation over the internet as to what these meetings were about but everyone seemed to have guessed correctly. It was the end of the Kings reign.

Andre Villas Boas
What next for our club? There have been many names mention so far, even though its been barely 6 hours since the announcement but the few interesting ones have been Roberto Martinez and the other, Andre Villas Boas. Both young and have a good sense of the game. Roberto having a good few years experience in the English Premier League and helping Wigan  not only keep their head above relegation but also finish in a decent place, whilst Villas Boas has a point to prove after his stint at Chelsea was abruptly ended.

Roberto Martinez
To end off, most of us knew Kenny was not the long term solution to our problem and FSG knew that, it was nice having him around but in order for us to be really challenging for top spots, we need someone that is capable of achieving that. Kenny will forever be known as King to us, his record speaks for itself, some say he has tarnished is reputation after the last season but you cannot over shadow the rest of his achievements over one season. He, himself must be disappointed, but I'm sure he knows it was the right thing to do. After all, it was he who said "Nobody is bigger than the club". Thank you King Kenny.

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart.

King Kenny

Monday Choon: Arty feat Tania Zygar - The Wall (Remode)

I cant get enough of this guy! For my life to be complete I have to see this Russian genius in action, all his sets are mind blowers and his mixes and remodes are just as impressive. If I had to list all the Arty songs I like, it would probably be all of it, I am that big of a fan. His mix of D-Mad "she gave me happiness" is still one of my all time favourites. This weeks track features Tania Zygar on vocals, I first heard of her on tyDi's track "Half light", great voice for trance.

The Beautiful Game

First and foremost, I am a Liverpool supporter and proud to be one, our season may be dismal but I would never shy away from that fact. Secondly I am a fan of football and todays round up of the Barclays English Premier League 2011/12 season just goes to show what an amazing game we have. Lots of moans going around about the money City spent but take away the money, the raw passion, gutts and glory seen today has made us love the game even more. Come the 89th I was sure that Manchester United had secured their 20th league title but then goals in quick succession by Dzeko and Aguero proved me otherwise. Great season finale but for my team theres tons of work to do. Everton finishing above us just goes to show how bad a season it was, yes we have a trophy but league progress needs to improve.

Well done City, looking forward to more exciting football next season but first, the Euro's!

Monday Choon: Goyte - Somebody that you used to know (Tiesto Remix)

The original song when it first came out was good but after weeks of being over played and mentioned it did become "one of those songs" for me, up and until last week that was. It was then I found Tiesto's remix of it and my god is it good!

Mclaren MP4-12C for special occasions, something cute from the 50's or 60's - maybe an old SL convertible for the daytime
2. What sandwich are you most likely to make for me? and will it be toasted or plain?
It depends on what is in your fridge and what kind of bread you have... or are we making this at my house where I might bake the bread?
3. What type of music gets your booty shaking?
Anything with a beat that's below 150bpm - minus vocal gymnastics... I'm not a Mariah fan.
4. Dream cover shoot?
Rolling Stone or Time.
5. If not modeling wasnt an option, what career would you have most like to get in to?
