Huawei is set to launch three new products in South Africa today and the best news is they're all going to be part of their massive winter sale which begins at 7pm tonight, the 1st of July 2020.  The three new devices you can look forward are the Huawei MatePad T8 Tablet, the Huawei Y6p smartphone and the Huawei Watch GT 2e. We have a link to the live stream of the sale above and it is the first time a sale has even been hosted live, comedians Nina Hastings and Skhumba will be your hosts to tell you more about what you can get at the sale which include other products including the must talking about Huawei P40 Pro.

Recommended retail price: R3,499

Just to give you some insight into the three new products that will be being launched today, firstly the Huawei Watch GT 2e which is the companies latest in smart wearables. It boasts an amazing two-week long batter life, smart tracking for 100 trendy sports along with accurate heart rate monitoring. Huawei boasts it's heart rate monitors as one of the best with precise monitoring that gives reminders on abnormal rates, pressure level monitoring as well as sleep monitoring features. Thus giving the user a better understanding of their health status in real time. For the first time Huawei has introduced a blood oxygen saturation monitor feature to the Watch GT 2 which is key for these times when the focus is on the respiratory health amid the Covid19 pandemic.

Recommended retail price: R2,999

The Huawei MatePad T8 Tablet is labeled as a smart tablet for study and entertainment, the companies keen selling point on this one is its affordability for what it has to offer. It's slim, light weight and not cumbersome to hold but pretty robust in build quality. It's powered by an advanced octa-core chipset and has a large 5100mAh battery which will provide hours of uninterrupted entertainment and education. Huawei say the battery can give the user up to 12 hours of 1080p video playback which is incredible. With the super clear 8 inch display, the tablet is smaller than an A5 sheer of paper and weighs just 310g. It's perfect for kids who are making use of the online learning facilities during these times.

Recommended retail price: R3,299

Lastly we have the Huawei Y6p, which is a new entry level smart phone with super long lasting battery. Yet another affordable option by Huawei, the stand out feature is the large 5000mAh battery making it a phone targeted to those who use their phone often during the day for phone calls and messages and have no time to plug it into a charger.  Huawei say the Y6p can give the user up to 32 hours of video playback time on a single charge. While the battery is pretty impressive, the camera isn't too shabby either with it boasting a 13MP triple camera which consists of a 13MP main camera, a 5MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth camera. In the front it has a 8MP front camera with advanced beautification algorithms for gorgeous selfies. The Y6p also has Huawei's SuperSound solution, this featured uses large sound chambers for audio components, which means better resonance and increased speaker volume and quality.

So if you keen to purchase any of these great products or just want to see what Huawei's winter sale is all about, don't forget to tune in at 7pm tonight.

Krispy Kreme - Durban

The secret was let out a few weeks ago at Gateways Out The Box event but yes, the big news is that the popular American Doughnut franchise is coming to the east coast! Krispy Kreme is set to open its first store outside the Guateng Province at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal in March next year. With the shopping centre winning numerous accolades including the Daily News Your Choice "Best Shopping Centre" award, it was evident why it was chosen for their location of choice in KZN. "Krispy Kreme South Africa is extremely proud and excited to share the joy that is Krispy Kreme with Durban and creates wonderful memories" says Krispy Kreme South Africa CEO, Gerry Thomas.

The international brand that is Krispy Kreme has been around for 79 years and with Gateway being one of Africa's leading and most prestigious shopping centres, the opening of this Krispy Kreme store symbolizes a prominent step in the brands local journey. The first flagship store was opened in 2015, there after saw an additional four Krispy Kreme outlets opening around Gauteng, at the Gautrain Sandton Station, Mall of Africa, Clearwater Mall and Sandton City respectively. There also plan on opening another two more stores before year end at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre and Eastgate Shopping Centre in November and December respectively.

"It is strategic to Krispy Kreme South Africa's rollout that we open stores in major regional shopping centers. Krispy Kreme South Africa are very fortunate to have secured a prime location in Gateway Theatre of Shopping, making this launch all more exciting", said Thmas. He went on to say "The Gateway Theatre of Shopping is Durban's superior retail node and as a prremium international braand, this locaation is the perfect fit for Krispy Kreme. The store position is also well seituated as the samler Krispy Kreme fresh stores planned for Durban's other major centers wiill be supplied out of the Gateway factory production store."

The store will be located at shop G350, which is on the outer side of the Center facing Palm Boulevard. Stay tuned to the blog or our Facebook page for more updates as they come.

Bucket Scene: Old Town Italy

Last week saw the official launch of Old Town Italy in Umhlanga taking place and I was one of the fortunate few to be on the guest list. Unlike most official openings, it wasn't just the who's who of town that attended but rather loyal clientele of the owners other establishments and members of the media. Not knowing much about the place, I was curious to see what it was all about as the other establishments that are in their group are all popular Durban landmarks, that is, Remos Fratelli and the Dutch.

Even though it was the launch party, the opening of Old Town Italy took place a few weeks before that and with that brought about quite a few mixed reviews about the place but I not the person that takes other peoples words for granted until I check the place out myself.

Firstly, what is Old Town Italy? Its a Deli, Cafe and Speciality food shop, well that's what it said on the sign but after visiting, it is so much more! The man behind the vision of the place, Renzo Scribante, put it nicely into context during his opening speech. It's a place for people to come, shop for good quality products, most of which are imported from Italy while getting that friendly service as we've become accustomed to at their establishments and enjoy the experience with their vast amount of items on offer. You truly can get lost in the selections on offer.

The place is split up into many different sections with the Cafe greeting you as you enter, ample seating inside and outside for patrons with a host of beverages on offer...besides Coke but who needs that when you have a variety of Italian craft beers and wine on offer? I didn't get a chance to see what the Cafe had to offer in terms of a food menu but they're anything like the light snacks that were on offer during the launch then it gets two thumbs up from me!

The store sends you on a magical journey, I make it sound like a fairy tale but it essentially does, every part is themed so brilliantly, from the bakery, to the deli and the Gelato stand that's adjacent to the front door. The butchery has the freshest meats, all grass fed, prime cuts on offer. The Deli has some of the finest cheeses and cold meat selections which classic Italian favourites on offer. The bakery is what steals the show for me though, a vast selection breads, from dough to baguettes, pizza's to foccias all of which look, smell and taste devine.

Moving over to the sweet side of the bakery, is what many would describe as heaven. Croissant's, tarts and confectionery for dayz! The infamous nutella filled mini doughnuts were on offer for the night, couldn't resist having one...a few... a lot.

With the big crowd in attendence it was hard to get a good view of the place as whole but visited the various areas gave you an indication what the place is about and seeing what was on offer really makes the place something different to what we are used to. It's like someone said at the launch, wives tell their husbands that they going for shopping and disappear for 2 to 3 hours but when men make a dash down to the store for bread and milk, its a 15 minute trip, but with Old Town Italy now open, they can get the bread and the milk, enjoy a beverage, have a chat to the butcher, the baker, sample some of the good food on offer then head back home after 2 hours. It only seems fair right?
