Bucket Babe: Matachley Salmon

2017 seems to be wasting little time as we're already in March, while the summer heat still continues warm most parts of the country, the heat on the blog is equally scorching and that is mainly thanks to our featured model. She's been burning up the ramps in Europe, walking for various designers and she returned back to SA to continue staking her claim on the catwalk at the local fashion weeks. While still young she's accomplished a lot in her career so far and strives to do more and in turn pass on her knowledge to young aspiring models. She loves to eat and can make a mean sandwhich, not mention has good taste in cars too but let me keep quiet and let her tell you more...

Bio

I'm 22, born and raised in Pretoria, and currently a full time model based in Johannesburg. I've traveled abroad to Portugal, Milan and Singapore. My career came about when I was one of the Top 10 finalists in the 2013 Elite Model Look competition, where I was offered my international contract.

I've walked in Portugal and Lisbon fashion week abroad and locally I've walk in South Africa fashion week and Mercedes-Benz Africa, Johannesburg and Cape Town fashion week. Fashion week is my favorite time of the year. Locally I've done a few small campaigns, editorials, features and shoots such as Top Billing, MTN, DeKat magazine, SABC Trendz, People Magazine, Suzaan Heyns and I do quite a few runway shows. I was voted one of the Top 25 new faces of Joburg in 2015 by Gaschette. In 2015 I had the privilege of walking for Carolina Herrra for her Breast Cancer awareness show in SA and had the honor of meeting her. That's somewhat of my career in a nutshell.

My hobbies include trying out new restaurants, food markets and cooking (I love eating!), shopping, watching movies/ series, playing games  like board and card games, and drinking wine!

Goals for the future is to be a runway and events producer, and marketer. I want to incorporate my love for the industry with producing. I'd love to have my own model academy one day, to coach young aspiring models and share my knowledge and experience about the industry.

I'm currently taking part in the World Swimsuit competition and will appreciate all votes and support, you can vote for me by following this link: Profile: Matachley Salmon

Bucket Babe: Anika Laubscher

It's almost the end of August and summer is getting ever so closer for us in South Africa, but its time to turn up the heat with this months bucket babe as we go off shore to find this local lass doing great things in Europe. Our featured model has lived in a number of countries on our beautiful continent and has now relocated to Europe to show them a thing or two, she's currently studying but has been in the modelling world for a while now and I can honestly say she is another one of our hot exports. She's been flying relatively low under the radar but we've managed to track her down on instagram and boy is it a must to follow! Her friendly nature is just one of the characteristics that adds to her charm and after reading what sandwich she would make for me, I almost went down on one knee. We'd like to wish her all the best for whatever life has in store for, hopefully it is big things and maybe one day we would get to share that sandwich. ;)

Bio
Growing up I lived in 3 different African countries, South Africa (where I was born), Tanzania and Namibia until I decied to take on Europe for good. I packed up my bags, kissed family and friends goodbye and now I live in the beautiful region of Marche, Italy...studying and collecting memories wherever life lets me go. (I'll go anywhere, why stay in one place? ;)

I love unplanned adventures, proving fortune cookies (and people) wrong and the company of eccentric people.
I try not to break my head on the future so much anymore, the present is pretty awesome if you know how to live it.

Spiga D'oro Durban North

I'm going to start off by saying that I'm not a food critic but I do like good food and Spiga D'oro, otherwise simply known as Spiga to many of their patrons is sort of an institution of good Italian food in Durban. If you follow me on twitter, you would know this is one of my favourite places to have a meal with friends, in fact we regard ourselves as "Spiga Royalty" since almost everyone that works there knows us (and are probably tired of seeing our faces). The restaurant is synonymous to the Florida Road district and one can say it is a landmark of such for the area, hence when I got an invite to attend a special dinner at the new branch in Durban North, it did feel a bit strange to head out to my favourite Italian eatery but in an opposite direction to the vibrant night life and buzz that goes along with that part of Morningside.

The new branch as stated before is located in Durban North on Mackuertan Avenue, it is also quite a popular spot for the area with many other restaurants and bars located on the strip but unlike Florida Road which tends to attract the, younger crowd, this part of town is a tad bit more laid back and easy with the more middle aged/ family people. The first thing I noticed when I entered the new restaurant was the amount of space there was compared to the original branch, granted on Florida Road they are tight for space, given the design of the structure they're in but with this new establishment, the open design is very welcomed and the the roof with exposed trusses giving the spot a greater volume which adds to the roominess.

The menu's are more or less the same as the other branch which has everyone's favourites but after chatting to owner Marco Santoniccolo, he explained to us the broader scheme of things. They have installed a wood fire over, in which they intend of doing daily meal specials such as oven cooked meat dishes apart from oven baked pizza's and pasta's. They also plan on catering for every part of the day with proposed coffee bar/ bakery that opens in the early mornings to serve the early risers, coffee and a selection of the favourite breads or pastries. A little later in the day the sandwich bar opens that will serve a wide variety of sandwiches and rolls. At 11am the main restaurant will open for business for sit in dinning, there are a licensed alcohol vendor and have a fully stocked bar which serve Heineken on tap!

The purpose for our invite was to give honest feedback on the premises, during our time there, the one thing that stood out for me was how relaxed the atmosphere was. We're so used to the fast paced and loud hustle that goes along with Florida Road, this dinning experience on the other hand was so peaceful that one didn't have to raise their voice during conversation. But getting back to the important part, the food! We indulged on a full 3 course meal of starter bruschetta, a wonderful seafood marinara pizza and chocolate volcano for dessert. All bearing the same standards that one associates with Spiga D'oro to go along with the same friendly service that we are accustomed to.

On the whole, the place has potential to make itself a landmark of the area like its sister branch has done in Morningside. It's a different concept but still offers the same great food and service but with a more family orientated atmosphere. I'd like to thank Marco, Sergio, Karla and the team for the invite and wish them everything of the best for the new premises, we'll be sure to frequent this one as well so the new staff can get to know the members of the "Spiga Royalty" ;)
