Bucket Babe: Kelly Roux

With Summer on the way, making things hot up around the country, we decided to heat things up on the blog as well. On the Bucket Babe for this month, we feature local model who is a budding adventure junkie and has a passion for medical science, it's a unique combination but that is what makes her so great! Currently studying her second degree and hoping to specialise thereafter, she also finds time in her busy schedule to train and occasionally get behind the camera and for that we are greateful. While she might not be great in the kitchen, she does share the same passion for cars and motor sport as us so we'll ignore that part, and settle to have popcorn everyday. Well that's enough blabbing from me, meet...

Kelly Roux

BIO

Hi there! My name is Kelly Roux, I am a bubbly, fun-loving, adventure-seeking young woman who loves to keep fit, healthy and constantly on-the-go. I am hard working, fiery with a zest for life and a true Aries nature. I am currently a student at WITS, completing my second degree in Medicine (with my first degree being a BHSc Bio-kinetics), as well as being a part-time published model (when time allows!). I absolutely love keeping active, so you'll find me in the gym most days of the week, or when I have a gap, going for a quick walk with my dogs or run around the block. I also love hiking and the outdoors, so count me on any outdoor related activity! I also love anything car and motor sport related, so when I'm not studying, modelling or running around doing some or another physically exertive activity, you;ll most likely find me at a car event.

My goals for the future career wise is to specialize after I complete my degree, possibly into (and don't laugh since they're vastly different) either Plastic Surgery or Neurosurgery. As different as they are, they each have their own unique attractions and interests to them, so we will see what the future holds in store for me (once I eventually finish studying!) I can't wait to be able to help so many people, and hopefully change so many lives for the better. Being a doctor has been my dream since I was 12 years old, and I feel incredibly blessed to be given the opportunity to become one. I'm actually such a nerd at heart, but I love it.

Accomplishments: I achieved the Sportswoman of the Year award in school, competing at Provincial and First Team varsity hockey; graduated with 8 distinctions in matic and Cum Laude in my first degree, being on the Dean's list as well as part of The Golden Key International Honour Society. I am so blessed to be a brand ambassador for Online Supplement Store, Tammy Taylor Nails Petervale, Adele Peacock Nails and Marc Dryden-Schofield Exclusive Models. God has really blessed me in life, and I really owe it to Him for all that I have accomplished.

Q&A

1. Hot girls and hot cars go hand in hand, what ride would you like to  see yourself in?
  • Phew! There are so many cars on my list to be honest (BMW M3, Mclaren, Nissan GTR, the works), but at the end of the day, my ultimate goal is to buy myself a Bentley Continental GT, in either pearl white or satin black.
2. What sandwich are you most likely to make for me? and will it be toasted or plain?
  • I'll be honest, I'm not too good in the kitchen, so it's probably safer for you to make your own sandwich (equality right?), otherwise instead of toasted or plain it might just be burnt!
3. Everyone loves popcorn (well I think they do) what is your topping/ sprinkle of choice?
  • I loooove popcorn, I swear I have it almost every day (no lies). I would have to say Cream Cheese and Chives. Mmmm.
4. Dream cover shoot?
  •  It would either be Women's Health Magazine, Vogue (I wish) and GQ to name a few off the top of my head.
5. If given a choice, full time model or full time executive, what would you choose?
  • I would choose full time executive. As much as I love modelling, I need to keep my mind constantly stimulated and challenged otherwise I end up getting bored and frustrated. As much as I've been blessed with modelling, I've never viewed it as my ultimate end career choice. I definitely think the two can go hand-in-hand (if not, why not?), so I intend to carry on with my modelling throughout my career if I can.the goal.
6. Growing up you must have had someone you aspired to be, so who is your role model?
  • I've had many different role models at many stages of my life, each being a role model for different aspects , but I would say that for the majority of my life I've always looked up to my mom for staying true to herself no matter what, for always being so fun-loving, adventurous, confident and sure of herself. She's taught me many important lessons about respect, forgiveness and love for yourself and for others, and those are the values I try and uphold every day.
7. Anyone holding that hand yet? or is it available?
  • This little hand of mine is happily held by a bigger hand, sorry gents.
8. Obviously being a female you would love fashion. Favourite label/ designer?
  • I actually giggled when I saw this question and wondered how I was going to answer it because fashion isn't actually a huge aspect of my life, if I were to be honest with you. I think my sportiness shines through in what I tend to wear, and I don't really mind where it's from, or who the designer is (if it's even designer at all), as long as it fits me well and looks relatively good. I probably should care more about it, but that's just me!.
9. What type of music gets your booty shaking?
  • oh my goodness, I love anything with a great beat! I love music, I try have it playing whenever I can, and I love going out just to dance.
10. Which city is your dream party destination?
  • I am dying to go to Ibiza or Cancun- those are two definitely on my bucket list for sure!

Bucket Tech: Huawei P20 Series SA launch

Last night saw the much anticipated local launch of Huawei's P Series smart devices, the launch focused on the P20 and the P20 Pro but another model which SA is also getting is the P20 Lite. All devices are available from today, countrywide at all mobile outlets. This is a significant feat from the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer as the devices were launched globally just last week in France. The affair was a glamorous one, with over 300 guests in attendance, all of which from different creative backgrounds and businesses, Huawei wanted to tell the nation what a great device it was bringing to our country.

Huawei dubs this phone as the future of smartphone AI Photography, and if you look at the hardware the device has, along with it's AI capabilities, this is certainly a new benchmark for mobile cameras. As a test, Huawei gave the P20 Pro to a bunch of prolific Instagram users from all over the country, each with a particular feature to test on the device and the images that were capture were simply amazing. Many of them stated that with the P20 Pro in their pocket, they could not only capture the moment but with great detail as well. The camera on the P20 Pro is something to be admired, it is the first phone to use triple-lens technology, which was created with Leica, and is a 40MP camer that not only captures colours and details but also at a faster speed, thus minimizing the chances of blurred or shaky pictures.

"The P20 series is built on unprecedented AI advances, combining technology and art to bring to life a groundbreaking smartphone experience", says Akhram Mohamed, Marketing Director. "We are ushering in a new era of smartphone cameras that combine the very latest in smartphone technology with Leica Camera's legendary expertise, drive by artificial intelligence. Essentially, we give users the tools to achieve professional photography results with every single shot."

The P20 is not only a great device with great technology but it also looks stunning. The full view display, great unibody design that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and the colours it's available in, just exude class and art. It also is very fashionable as Huawei went to prove by joining forces with one of SA's leading fashion designers, Gavin Rajah who showcase a range of garments which were made using inspiration from the device. Overall, the P20 Pro looks like the phone to get and if you're a photo fundi, whether it be taking selfies, pictures of your food or a professional photographer, this device is for you!

Price on the devices which as mentioned before are available from today are as follows.

  • P20 Lite - R5,999
  • P20        - R12,999
  • P20 Pro - R15,499

Huawei is also offering a VIP service for their customers, giving them one free screen replacement as well as battery replacement within the first year of purchase, if done at one of their service centers, they also say that it would take just one hour. This also applies to their P10 and Mate 10 devices.  Huawei also announced its sponsorship of the new Survivor Philippines, which debuts on M-Net, on the 3rd of May at 7pm.
