Help Yolandi

One of the first bloggers I befriended with when I entered the online world was @JuicyJemma, mysterious at the time since she should go with her alter ego but friendly and cool none the less. Her blogs were great and interesting and so was following her escapades on twitter. We often teased each other for being "famous online" but now shes stepped up to a whole new level. Deciding to quit her day job and pursue a career in modeling wasn't easy but she showed great perseverance and was duly rewarded with many a shoot, none bigger than her Playmate feature in the 2011 July edition of Playboy Magazine SA. That escalated her fame to new heights as she became a regular in the paper, a pin up girl for the US marines and having one of the more popular Facebook pages.  Now she's got the opportunity to represent herself and SA on the world stage in the Playboy International Beauty Pageant to be held in the Philippines, and she needs your help to do so, I'll let her tell you more...

"SMS 4 to 40583 for me to represent SA (that's us!) at the PLAYBOY
International Beauty Pageant in the Philippines later this year. Its a massive
opportunity that can do so much for my career! I work hard, I give back to
my fans by doing competitions a LOT and I'm consistent in my marketing and
approach to my fans (not just when I need votes). It is R5 an sms (a little
expensive, but you can't add a price to a dream, right?) and only South
Africans can vote. Voting closes 31st August at midnight, so I need ALL the
help I can get. Don't send 1, send 100 please (or until you run out of
airtime) please. Thank you!!
xxx" - Yolandi Malherbe

You heard the lady and heres some motivation for your vote....not like you needed any ;-)

Recipe: Grilled tomatoes

Seeing that I've been fasting for what seems like a decade but actually was a month, I was getting tired of the usual veggie food. I mean there's only so much pizza, pasta and cheese toast you can eat. So I decided to get creative in the kitchen, I wanted something simple yet filling but doesn't take a lot of time to make. I know the title reads "grilled" but it actually is pan fried. Its sort of a bruschetta but can be eaten as a light meal too. Here's how to make it.

Ingredients.
  • 2 large, red, firm tomatoes
  • bread of your choice
  • 2 table spoons olive oil
  • cream/ cottage cheese
  • dried Italian herbs
  • garlic flakes
  • crushed black pepper
  • spring onion

Recipe

Begin by slicing your tomato, you'd want a nice thick slice so that it still maintains its shape when frying. In a frying pan, add your olive oil. Wait for the oil to heat up before placing your tomatoes in, once in sprinkle your dry spices and herbs. For a bit of kick, you can sprinkle a chilli power. Cook the tomato for about 2/3 minutes on either side. While this is being done, slice your bread also keep it a little thicker than usual. You can either pop it in the toaster or the oven, just for a short while to crispen it, we don't want it hard in texture. Spread a generous amount of you cream/ cottage cheese on the bread then place your fried slices of tomatoes on top. Garnish with the chopped spring onion and you're ready to eat!

The senselessness

I don't blog about serious issues that make the news but this is one story that struck a nerve with me. I was a bit slow to learn of this but yesterday morning a read an article about a young muslim gentlemen who lost his life due to a "hate crime" incident in the North West province.

Now I know what you're thinking, hundreds of people are murdered in our country why this particular story? No one deserves to die by the hands of another human, no one has the authority to end another persons life, hence our government had the death penalty banned. Though it seems that has made it easier for criminals to get away with it so to speak, yes over the years SA's murder rate has come down but with the over crowding at prisons many never serve their entire sentences.

Coming back to the incident that transpired in Magaliesburg, from what I understand Mohammed Fayaaz Kazi, a 27 year old Muslim male entered a Chicken Licken in the area to purchase food for him and his dad's friend who was with him at the time to break their fast. This being Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims which requires them to abstain from eating or drinking during the day. While there, he encountered two white Afrikaans males, who then started making fun of his beard and compared him to Osama Bin Laden. They were speaking in Afrikaans but Kazi understood them and asked them to stop, which then prompted a scuffle in the store which resulted in the two men assaulting Kazi. They were then kicked out of the store and that's when the two men began to brutally hit and kick the victim.

Witnesses described Kazi's screams as chilling and that like of an animal that was severely hurt. Anser Mahmood (Kazi's fathers friend) ran to his aid but was also assaulted and knocked unconscious by the attackers. The two continued their attack on the men but fled the scene before the police could arrive. Kazi and Mahmood were still alive but beaten up badly left the scene there after heading back home. Obviously the two were heavily traumatised by the incident but Kazi's injuries were severe and had to be taken to hospital where he later died.

The two men accused of this brutal assault have been taken into custody and appeared in court where they have been denied bail until their hearing but will justice be served? Will the two accused get what they deserve?  There isn't any sentence that can bring back Kazi's life nor make it seem equal to what they have done. The question I ask is why? Why take someones life? The manner is which it was done and the reasoning make it more mind boggling! Do these two lack common sense? Obviously they have no tolerance for others beliefs and religions to mock him over his beard. Then to brutally assault someone to the point where they die from the injuries, that to me is inhumane.

What makes it worse is the timing, not to say there is a correct time to die but during the most holy month in the Muslim calender. All Kazi wanted was some food to end his fast for the day but he ended up losing his life. Its incidents like this that leave me dumbfounded and question what type of society we live in. Yes we are all not savages like these two but still, to live in a place where such people exist is scary. Now this is not a post to say the country is going down the drain, lets move to Australia because I can guarantee you that it can happen in any country.

This incident isn't the first and I'm sure it wont be the last but its just sad that it had to happen. I just hope in the future people will be more tolerant over others faiths and religions, just by doing that we can achieve so much more as humanity.

Monday Choon: Afrojack - Rock the house

Nick van de Wall or better known as Afrojack first burst onto the commercial scene with his hit track "Take over control" featuring vocals from Eva Simmons which was a club sensation. He followed it up with a few singles but none bigger than his colab with fellow DJ Steve Aoki titled "No Beef" which seem to elevate his status and from there his track with Shermanology "Cant stop me now" made him one of the big names in the clubs. Performing at Ultra Music Festival this year and also making the title song for Tomorrowland 2012, he is sure to keep his name at the top of the lists of top DJ's. I cant wait for him to tour SA soon. Here he is with his latest offering "Rock the house"

Olympic Beauties

As most of you, the Olympics has gotten the most attention by me since its started and as said in my previous post I'll watch just about anything! Now being a sporting event theres bound to be a lot of fit people, as in physically fit but there is also quite a few that are blessed with good looks to go with their epically hot bodies! This may not be all but heres a few from the various sports.

Yana Maksimava
The 22 year old Belarusian took part in the ladies heptathlon, missed out to Britains Jessica Ennis so I thought I'd give her a spot on my list.

Lolo Jones
The USA athlete who is competing in the 100m hurdles in this years Olympics is quite the stunner and at 30 years of age this might be the last time you spot her at the games.

Anastasia Vasina
Beach volleyball and Russia shouldn't be in the same sentence but Anastasia might convince you otherwise.

Hope Solo
Another team USA athlete makes the list and I just couldnt leave her out, probably the one keeper you want to score the most against...

Yelena Isinbayeva
The 30 year old Russian oozes hotness and can handle that pole like nobody else. Pity she missed out on gold this year.

Darya Klishina
Shes a long jumper but looks like she belongs on the cover of an FHM, this Russian athlete will win gold every time if she had to be judged on looks!

Stephanie Rice
An Australian but we dont mind because shes hot! The pool is the place you can find her but seeing that all the events are over we just have to wait till the next one.

Leryn Franco
She could have been a super model but she chose to be a javelin thrower instead. Representing Paraguay in the Olympics and with looks like that its hard to believe shes 30!

Tania Cagnotto
I cried when the Italian narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the women's individual diving. Such a talent it was a shame that the Olympic medal illuded her yet again!

Sandra Izbasa
This Romanian won my heart over and if given the chance I'd make her my wife! She picked up a gold medal for her efforts in the gymnastics, a true champion and hottie!
