Monday Choon: ARTBAT & David Guetta feat Gotye and Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know

In what feels like forever since ARTBAT first dropped this banger at one of their live sets, they have finally officially released the track. The remix of Gotye's "Somebody that I used to know" has been a cult favourite for over a year now with various artists also playing it during their sets at festivals, most recently Koralov. I think it had to do with licensing issues with the various record labels coming to an agreement for the use of the track but I'm glad they sorted all the legal stuff so we can finally appreciate just how good this remix is. Also, while it has ARTBAT signature style of sound, there was an undertone of David Guetta's future rave element there and it goes to show since he was also part of making this remix. The drop is probably one of the best you going to hear so turn up the volume and enjoy.

Monday Choon: Kungs, David Guetta, Izzy Bizu - All Night Long

Today's featured track see's the collaboration between two French DJ's that have interesting styles of music, the first is 27 year old Valentin Brunel, better known by his stage name "Kungs", he is most noted from this hit track "This Girl" where he worked with Cookin' with 3 burners. His style is more along the mellow house style with 70's inspired techno. This time round he teamed up with French legend David Guetta who was one of the leaders in bringing a pop aspect to EDM, but over the past 4 years he's been punting his new future rave sound, so it was interesting to see how these two very two styles would fuse for this track and the results have been outstanding. "All night long" has a very catchy beat with melodic vocals that get catches you immediately, it doesn't take long for the drop to kick and then you're hooked to the groovy sound which is has a heavy piano backtrack. In just 3 weeks the official music video has just over 700K views with it looking to hit the million mark soon.

Monday Choon: David Guetta vs Benny Benassi - Satisfaction

French DJ David Guetta has been spoiling us since 2020 with his latest genre "Future Rave", its a fresh new take on electronic music from him and to be honest, I quite like it. It's build ups are great with high energy drops that instantly gets your blood pressure going. If you watched the sets from Ultra Europe and Tomorrowland, then you, like me have been probably waiting in anticipation for the release of todays featured track. David has taken Italian DJ legend, Benny Benassi's cult classic track "Satisfaction" and given it his future rave treatment and boy is it a banger of note! Played by most DJ's including the likes of Armin, Nicky Romero, Tiesto and others at the various festivals around Europe, it definitely got the crowds going wild. The track was officially released last week Friday on Spinnin' Records and we have it here on the blog for you to enjoy.

Monday Choon: Joel Corry x RAYE - David Guetta - BED - [David Guetta Festival Mix]

While the original Joel Corry's track Bed is doing wonders on the charts, we feel like we needed something a bit more up-tempo for the Monday and step in David Guetta with his Festival Remix. As usual the French DJ just elevates the sounds with his own unique style, with most of Europe slowly starting to open up, we're going to be getting more of these festival type mixes coming out. Most of the major festivals have already started confirming dates for later this year so you can bet artists will be working much more on new music for then. For now we can enjoy these tracks while at home or in the car. Turn up the volume for this one because its a banger!

Monday Choon: David Guetta & MORTEN - Save My Life feat. Lovespeake

That crazy Frenchman is back, David Guetta has been one of the most engaging DJ's this year, from his live stream sets to his charity drives while being in the US. He's been hard at work collaborating, making new music during this tough year and in doing such has gained a lot of respect by me especially. I wasn't a fan of his because I felt his music was targeted too much at the commercial market instead of the fans which grew to love him in the early stages but it seems David is rediscovering his roots but also opting for different sounds, like todays featured track, "Save My Life" which features Danish DJ Morten. The track has a synonymous Big Room sound to it with the heavy bass undertone but a mixture of the techno beats and vocals by Lovespeake, brings the track together for an awesome product. It's a proper banger of note so turn up the volume and enjoy!

Monday Choon: David Guetta & MORTEN - Never Be Alone

David Guetta is the type of DJ that makes music for the mainstream audiences but every now and then he drops a song to remind you that he still can make tracks that warrants spins at EDM parties and events, not just the radio. Today's featured track is just that, he teams up with Danish DJ and producer Morten and features vocals from Aloe Blacc. The track titled "Never Be Alone" was released in July this year and still a firm favourite of many.

Ultra SA 2017 - Phase 2 Line up

If you missed it earlier this week, Ultra South Africa released their phase 2 line up for the much anticipated event next year. Following on the announcement from a couple months ago of the two major headliners of Martin Garrix and David Guetta, this week organisers lifted the lid on the full line up that will grace the main stage of Ultra South Africa 2017. International superstars Dash Berlin, KSHMR and DJ Snake will join David Guetta and Martin Garrix on the main stage with support from the likes of Black Coffee, Felix Jaehn, Headhunterz and Nic Fanciulli round out the highly anticipated Phase Two lineup for UltraSA 2017.

Dash Berlin returns for a second year running, being one of my favourite DJ's from this years Ultra, I'm glad to see his name on the lineup again. This Dutch trance veteran has been contributing to the international scene for over a decade. He's worked with icons such as Justin Timberlake, Usher, N.E.R.D and Lenny Kravitz to name just a few. His performance at Ultra SA 2016 blew the crowd away, so expect Dash to bring the Energy levels to a peak at Ultra in February next year!

Niles Hollowell-Dhar, better known as KSHMR (pronounced Kashmir)was awarded "The Highest New Entry" on DJ Mag's Top 100 list and has since moved up 11 places this year to the No. 12 spot. His music is a mixture of high energy electro and classical Indian which he fuses to make a unique and high tempo beat. KSHMR has played at almost every major festival so it's great to see the American producer make his way to South Africa and get the crowds going to his live act, which will take them to a whole new level.

DJ Snake needs no introduction to the South African crowds, while this will be his first visit to the country, the French DJ and record producer's music has been quite popular around the country for a few years now. His last major chart climber "In the middle" is still played on some local radio stations and his recent collaborations with megastars such as Justin Bieber and Major Lazer just escalated his cult status. Crowds can look forward to him play a range of his unreleased future hits at Ultra South Africa as well.

The support line is also one that is worth a mention and also one which I am quite looking forward to. Headhunterz have been on the scene for a while now and have featured on many podcasts of leading trance and dance shows. His his name is William Rebergen and hails from the Netherlands, his hard hitting energetic sets is what makes him so special and crowds can expect a lot from him. Next up, Felix Jaehn, the prodigal German tropical house DJ and producer that went number 1 in 20 countries with his remix of OMI's cheerleader will bring a summer sound to SA that will surely get the girls dancing and the boys smiling.

Lovers of a deeper sound will be glad to know that the Resistance stage is back! After the success of this years Ultra, it was a no brainer for the organiser and the line up is going to be equally hot has Main Stage. First up we have Nic Fanciulli, he needs little introduction after completing a truly successful Resistance world tour in 2016 with Ultra Worldwide. Anyone who watching him on the Resistance stages around the world or was at the legendary Space Ibiza closing party will know exactly how good this British DJ and producer is at getting a dance floor going long into the night.  Join him on the Resistance stage is none other that South Africa's own Black Coffee, undoubtedly one of the biggest exports to the world from the SA dance scene, you can catch him again as he lights up the night with his beats next year.

The local support act line up is pretty insane as well with some big name DJ's on the list.

Timo ODV - Pascal & Pearce - DJ Fresh - Euphonik - Crazy White Boy - P.H - DJ Milkshake - DJ Shimza - Vigilante - DJ Dimplez - Kyle Watson - Strange Loving - Mark Stent - Ryan Murgatroyd - Vimo - Chunda Munki - Kyle Cassim - Yeti - Dean Fuel - Household Funk - Saubomb - Ricardo Da Costa with more to be announced closer to February 2017.

Ultra SA 2017: Phase One Headliners

With Early Bird tickets selling out in a flash, the wait was on for tier 1 tickets to go on sale yesterday but along with the second wave of ticket sales , organisers dropped the names of two of the headliners that will be gracing the Main Stage next year at both Cape Town and Joburg shows.

First up we have David Guetta, it will be the first time for the Frenchman to play at Ultra South Africa. Having visited the country over five years ago it was about time he made a come back. He has had many hits over the past few years, being one of the firt DJ's to excel in the commerical sector with many of his tracks making the top 40 charts on various radio stations. This earning him a cult status and saw him catapult his career, since then he's played at many major festivals as well at this years opening and closing ceremonies at Euro 2016. He is no stranger to the Ultra family as he is a regular at Ultra Miami and also recently played at Ultra Europe. South Africa has much to look forward to from him.

The second headliner needs no introduction, Ultra South Africa will always hold a dear place in his heart as it was the first Ultra Music Festival he played at and was such a hit first time round that they brought him back the very next year. Who am I talking about? None other that the prodigal son Martin Garrix! The young Dutchman is back after skipping last year and was actually brought back because of high demand by you the fans. Yes, such is his talent, he has continued to make multi-platinum tracks and play on the main stages of all the major festivals. I'm sure he is just as excited to be back in South Africa next year.

Monday Choon: David Guetta feat. Sam Martin - Dangerous

I'll be straight out and honest, I don't like Mr Guetta's music, he started off as a good DJ but as the commercial bug bit him, he kept spewing out the same type shitty music thaat kept making it onto the Top 40 charts around the world. Don't get me wrong, I know thats the point of being an artist, to be successful and have your work recognised but I feel in the world of EDM, he took the easy way out and made... pop like music. Okay, enough with the bashing of him and onto todays feautred song, I first heard it at the GH Mumm launch as it forms part of their official F1 anthem and boy is it good. Guetta teams up with Sam Martinwho provides the vocals, add to that the catchy bass line and brilliant music video, this song is a winner in my books and sure to be a summer hit.
