Anjunadeep Open Air South Africa 2025

Following two successful shows in March this year in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, the oragnisers of the first ever Anjunadeep Open Air show on the African continent have decided to go again in 2025. The announcement was made not too long after the shows this year and echos what deep house means to us here in South Africa. After attending the Cape Town event which in its own right was spectacular to say the least, we were begging for more and the people down at Anjuna HQ did not disappoint when they released the official line-up for the 2025 shows. First up see's British female duo Eli & Fur comprising Eliza Noble and Jennifer Skillman, hailing from London, England. Eli & Fur have been working together since they were in their teens, they write and play their own tracks, which creates a sound that is "distinctly electronic, mixing house and dance beats". SONA see's his introduction to the line-up and many don't know this but he is the son of SA's very own global superstar Black Coffee, following in his fathers footsteps has achieved massive success in his first 12 months of producing music. The Anjuna team decided to throw in some Amapiono & Afrotech into the mix with the addition of Stofella, the former Miss SA contestant has found solace in music and has created quite a name for herself in the industry thus far. The biggest headline act though has to be Dutch DJ duo Tinlicker,  the electronic music group from Utrecht comprising Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven. Formed in 2012, they have released music on labels such as Anjunadeep, mau5trap, Astralwerks, and Armada. They have played festivals including Mysteryland, Creamfields, Tomorrowland, Ultra and are now making their way to SA to play for us in 2025!

Tickets have already gone on sale for both shows, so if you still haven't gotten yours, the question is why the hell not? Prices start at R350 for General access and are available on Howler

Bucket Seat: SA Festival of Motoring 2024

Today see's the start of SA's biggest motoring festival, the South African Festival of Motoring taking place at the home of motor racing, Kyalami International Grand Prix Circuit in Johannesburg. Today they hosted a media day, so the journo's could get up close and personal with what is on display for festival goers, unfortunately I couldn't attend myself but if you are planning or still deliberating on attending this weekend, this post is to give you a snapshot of what you can expect. There has been a host of new car reveals and that is essentially what we will be focusing on today.

Biggest news of the day, well morning was from Ford South Africa who lifted the covers of their all new Mustang GT. This one caught many by surprise as the car itself was only due later on in the year. Ford SA has already confirmed that we will also be getting the Dark Horse edition of the car. The Mustang boasts that iconic 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 motor which delivers 328kW and 540Nm of torque, with the Dark Horse squeezing out 372kW. The updated interior see's a lot of technology advancements with a huge curved display and a neat remote rev function which can start the car and rev it from the key. No official word on pricing has been given yet but it's definitely North of R1.2 million.

Next up, we move over to the Germans, Volkswagen SA showcased their updated T-Cross. While the general styling remains the same with revised bumpers for the front and back, the main changes come in the lights, with the headlights getting IQ Matrix LED's and the rear featuring Matrix LED lights. On the inside, there set up has been revised giving it a more mature look and feel. The infotainment has been upgraded to an 8-inch touch screen display and the instrument cluster now being fully digital. Wireless charging and App Connect is now standard throughout the range and VW has introduced a lot more soft touches on the dash and door inserts. Pricing starts at R462,200 for the Life 1.0 TSI 85kW model with 3 lower engine derivatives still making their way to the shores.

VW also has on display some other cool cars, like their long wheel base ID Buzz, the new Toureg and the soon to be launched new Tiguan! So lots to see from them.

Suzuki launched their latest edition of the the much loved Swift. Featuring modern styling and an all new 1.2 liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine that promises more efficiency but still delivering decent power at 60kW and 112Nm. There will be 3-trims to choose from, GL, GL+ and the range topping GLX which features CVT automatic gearbox, folding side mirrors, keyless entry, push button start, rear PDC's, 7-inch infotainment screen and reverse camera.

With the influx of Chinese brands to the market, it wouldn't be right not to feature at least one exciting model showcased and it had to be the Jaecoo J6. This attractive retro looking SUV stole the lime light from the rest with its out there design and robust statue, the J6 commanded attention when it was showcased today. With it being confirmed for SA shores, the J6 will be the brands fully electric offering, with the brand also planning to launched a plug-in hybrid version of the popular J7. Jaecoo seem bullish about the J6 and if pricing is decent, it could see them lead the EV race from the Chinese point of view in SA.

Speaking of Chinese EV's, that brand everyone knows off but hardly hears much of, BYD also displayed their latest model to the country, the Seal. A fully electric sedan, yes a sedan not an SUV, it almost seems like a breath of fresh air to say that. They have that on display for show goers. There are many other offerings for you to see at this years SAFOM, big names such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley also have displays and Volvo having a stellar line up too, with a mixture of their PHEV's and their EV's with the CX30 leading the showcase but also a special edition "Adventure Beast" version of the XC90 is on display at the off-roading exhibit. It seems like a bumper line up is in store at this years festival, and not forgetting the fun on the track so if you're a petrol head or just someone looking to do something fun this weekend, best set your Google maps to Kyalami. Tickets are available via the website and start from R275 for adults and R75 for kids aged 4-12.

Anjunadeep, the renowned UK label is slated to make its South African debut with two incredible events scheduled for this coming March. The first, Ajunadeep Open Air Johannesburg will take place at The River Cabin in Cedar, Johannesburg, on Friday, March 29th, 2024. Followed by Ajunadeep Open Air Cape Town on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, kicking off at The Ostrich in Cape Town.

Anjunadeep promises to weave the label's emblematic, melodic soundscapes and unparalleled production values with the rich tapestry of South Africa's local talent, all set against the backdrop of two breathtaking open-air venues in the beautiful cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Known for its unbelievable lineups and unique sound, Ajunadeeps's debut in South Africa will be no exception. The shows will feature international headliners Ben Bohmer, James Grant. Jody Wisternoff and Nicky Elisabeth supported by the outstanding homegrown talents of Da Capo, FKAMash, Kareyndasoul, Buhle and Cornelius SA to make this a truly unforgettable experience amidst the natural beauty of South Africa.

Ajunadeep

London based, independent record label Anjunadeep was set up in 2005 by Above & Beyond. In its early years the imprint existed as a sub-label to parent imprint, Ajunabeats. Initially releasing deep trance and progressive house, Ajunadeep has since evolved its output to offer only the very finest in deep house as well as progressive and melodic techno.

James Grant, brother of Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant heads up A&R for the label and mixes the annual compilation series, currently alongside Jody Wisternoff. The label hosts a weekly radio show ‘The Anjunadeep Edition’, featuring guest mixes from artists on the roster.

A transformative force in electronic music, championing talents like Ben Bohmer, Dusky, Lane 8, Yotto, Cubicolor, and Eli & Fur amongst many others, Ajunadeep's storied history is punctuated with sold-out parties at iconic locations across the globe. Anjunadeep: Explorations, the label's very own boutique festival in DhĂ«rmi, Albania, The Gorge Amphitheatre, and Anjuna Beach in Goa are just a few of the breathtaking venues to have witnessed the singular Anjunadeep magic.

With its South African debut on the horizon, the label is set to expand its legacy by captivating yet another corner of the globe. Anjunadeep's foray into South Africa is a testament to its global influence and commitment to fostering a universal love for deep, emotive electronic music.

Ultra South Africa 2023

After 3 years the Ultra Music Festival returned to South African shores to mesmerize and thrill local electronic dance community. Cape Town and Johannesburg were treated to some of the best in international and local artists over Friday and Saturday with an unconfirmed record crowd for the Johannesburg leg. While there were many despondent comments after the final line-up was released, with the lack of headliner acts for the main stage especially, the ones who were named did not disappoint!

Local acts such as Kyle Cassim, Gold Fish and Grammy award winning artist Zakes Bantwini got the masses going on the main stage before the international acts took over. Gold Fish who have toured the world with their mixture of electric and live sounds, signed with Armin van Buuren's record label Armada have been entertaining crowds world over, and their set in Johannesburg was nothing short of world class.

Next up, that crazy Australian Fisher took to the stage with what can only be described as electric energetic performance that had the crowd jumping on their feet.  Dutch DJ Oliver Heldens got the groove on with his future house style deep melodic sounds before Swedish maestro Alesso played probably the best set of the night for me, kicking up classics like his remix of Pressure by Starkillers before ending his set with the iconic "If I loose myself Tonight" with One Republic which had the entire crowd singing in harmony. Ending the night on the mainstage was another Aussie, Timmy Trumpet. His hardstyle big room music took the crowd over 150 bpm as it was a rather raucous end to the night.

Resistance stage as always did not disappoint with Dane DJ Kolsch and Adam Bayer sending the crowds into pure ecstasy with their sets. I was a bit disappointed with the lighting and stage design for Resistance as I felt it was cut down a lot compared to the 2020 show. Being in an indoor venue there was so much more that could have been done in terms of lighting. Overall though, Ultra SA 2023 proved to be one for the record books with massive crowds, excellent organization and plenty of stalls for beverages, food and top up kiosks for the cashless wristbands. I'm glad to hear that the festival will be back next year on the weekend of March 1st, with shows confirmed for Cape Town and Johannesburg.

One sad thing to come out from the festival was the passing of Costa Titch who sadly passed away after collapsing on the Smirnoff Stage midset. Condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.

Ultra South Africa 2023

After close to a three year absence, South Africa's biggest dance music festival returns in 2023! Yes, Ultra South Africa is back to hit the African continent in March next year, bringing you the biggest names in the electronic dance music industry to perform live, in our backyard. Interesting to note that South Africa was the only country to host an Ultra festival in 2020 prior to the world going into lockdown and while the world has slowly opened up and eased restrictions since March this year, most of the festivals in the Americas and Europe had us suffering with major FOMO while we sat and watched them on the live streams so you can only imagine how much us locals are raring to go!

Ultra SA 2023 in its 8th edition will be hosted in the two host cities as normal, starting with Cape Town on the 10th of March 2023, at a new venue of Kenilworth Racecourse and the following day, March 11th in Johannesburg at the Expo Centre in Nasrec. Tickets are on sale now, via the official website, www.ultrasouthafrica.com with tier 1 tickets selling out fast for both venues! So avoid disappointment and register for your Ultra Passport now!

Ultra South Africa 2020 - Recap

This past weekend saw the largest dance music festival on the continent take place over two days in two cities. Over 50,000 Ultranauts descended upon both Cape Town's Ostrich Ranch and Nasrec  in Johannesburg. Having attended the Johannesburg leg of the event, I can say this years one superseeds the previous ones in terms of crowds, stages and line-ups. All four stages had packed out crowds with a range of International and local artists performing their hits. People were spoiled for choice, with a stage offering something for everyone. The Ultra App was a must this year, to help you keep tabs on who is playing where and at what time, making sure you didn't miss anything. Organisers have learnt well from the past and this years Ultra was one of the smoothest and seamless I've been to in the past years, massive props to the organizers and sponsors for pulling this off.

The main stage as ever was spectacular and came alive during the dark, International acts such as Dash Berlin, Steve Aoki, Afrojack and DJ Snake were highlights from there but South Africa's very own Black Coffee stole the show for me. It was his first time playing on the main stage and he really showed us why he is world renowned and so in demand. Resistance stage set up was amazing, with the over heard LED grid as well as the large visuals on the stage, couple that with some of the best deep house music by both local and international acts. Da Capo, Camelphat, Luciano were just some of the many who had party goers on their feet.

Ultra South Africa have already confirmed dates for next year, with Feb 26th and 27th being secured for the 2021 shows. If this years was anything to go by, you do not want to miss out on next years event!

Ultra South Africa: Park & Ride

Planning on going to Ultra South Africa next week? Why bother driving and risk sitting in traffic or trying to find parking, because the Ultra Family have your back with exclusive park and ride facilities at minimal costs! Ultra SA have teamed up with Zeelo to provide shuttle services between the venue and designated parking areas in and around the city, most of them being shopping malls. It's the easier and less stressful way of getting to Ultra SA and you can sit back, get the party going on your trip there for just R200 for Zeelo or R160 for Park and Ride.

Ultra SA Johannesburg also has a new opening time, gates will officially open at 12pm for the very first time, so 2020 party goers can start the festivities earlier and avoid the long queuing process that many have been plagued with in the past. All early entrants will receive a free Budweiser on arrival (while stocks last), also parking at NASREC will be free for all early arrivals. This is just one of a few ways organizers are doing to curb the traffic nightmares.

Ultra South Africa 2020 - Phase 2 Line Up

Last week saw the release of the second phase artist line-up for Ultra 2020. Additions to the already star studded list include Chilean-Swiss DJ Luciano who will be touring the country for the first time. His music is strongly influenced by Latin American Music and his sets in Ibiza are world renowned. Another International headliner announced was the Dutch DJ duo of Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano who are legends of Ultra Miami. Their music style is progressive and their stage presence is second to none, they will also be making their Ultra SA debut and no doubt will be a strong favourite with the crowds as well. Last but certainly not least is the introduction of Camelphat as another of the support act, the British duo need no introduction to South African audiences as their hit single featuring Elderbrook "Cola" was played in full force around the country during its release. Since then the pair have made a number of hits as well as remixed some great tracks along the way, definitely one not to be missed come Feb next year. Tickets are on sale from the WEBSITE so get yours now before its too late! Phase 3 artist line-up to drop soon so keep an eye out!

Monday Choon: Martin Garrix & Dyro - Latency

It's Ultra South Africa week! This Friday see's the biggest electronic dance event on the continent kick off things in Cape Town at the Ostrich Farm before making it's way to Johannesburg at the Nasrec Expo Center. Today we feature a firm Ultra SA favourite, Martin Garrix as he returns to make his 4th appearance headlining at Ultra South Africa. His track featuring Dyro is our pick ahead of this weeks festivities, its a song that for me shows what Martin Garrix's music and style is all about. His mixtures of techno and hardstyle is a fresh rendition of the music of today. He's had some notable collabs over the years which seen him mature into the artist he is today. While he has headlined the first three Ultra South Africa's, this time round we're going to experience a different sort of Garrix and personally I cannot wait.

Ultra South Africa 2019 - Final Line Up

Yesterday Ultra South Africa released their final artist line up for their 2019 festival, while there were not any more international headliners there was an international support act announced as well many, many local ones. In it's 6th year running Ultra SA have ensured that they remained the countries number one dance music festival, with major headliner announcement last year of The Chainsmokers who will be making their debut playing to SA crowds in March, bring with them a unique live experience as they will be bringing down the curtain on both the Cape Town and Johannesburg shows.

Fan favourite Martin Garrix returns for his 4th Ultra South Africa, having played at the first three events. His no stranger to us and is bond to put on a spectacle as always. Another act that will be making their Ultra SA debut but are no strangers to South Africa are Above & Beyond. The English DJ are set to kick off the headliners at both shows, bringing the crowds to euphoric levels with their uplifting trance beats, and be sure to be ready and waiting in the crowd as you could be pushing that button! With Vini Vici being announced as one of the support acts for the headliners, yesterday another international support act was announced, Infected Mushrooms will be bringing their unique music and style to Ultra SA. With a big fan base locally, there are many who have been waiting to see them perform live in the country.

The Resistance stage is headlined by our very own Black Coffee and features a number of top local support acts. Ultra South Africa have also launched a VVIP Table Experience booking which can do so via the website. For more information you can follow Ultra South Africa on the various social media channels or the website.

Ultra South Africa 2019

Registration for South Africa's biggest dance music festival is now open, yes Ultra is back in 2019 to electrify crowds and bring you the biggest names in Dance Music currently. In what will be its 6th year running, Ultra is said to be bigger and better than the years before, offering more for you, the paying customer as you will find out more about this below.

Big news for Ultra 2019 is the venue change, after hosting the event in the Cape Town Stadium for the past two years, organizers have chosen to move the event back to its original location at the Ostrich Farm. This will be welcome news to much of the fans as this was the preferred venue of choice for many that attended. Johannesburg venue remains the same, at Nasrec Expo Centre.

Also if you have been a loyal attendee of Ultra in the past, organisers of the event have recognized this and are offering those loyal a legacy ticket when registered for Ultra 2019. What this entitles you to is a cheaper ticket than the normal and it will also come with a wristband that is preloaded with R100 credit for you to use at Ultra 2019.  These tickets are extremely limited and will be sure to be snapped up quickly, so if you qualify, be sure to register and keep and eye on the blog for dates of ticket sales.

Legacy ticket pricing is as follows:
