Ultra South Africa 2023

After close to a three year absence, South Africa's biggest dance music festival returns in 2023! Yes, Ultra South Africa is back to hit the African continent in March next year, bringing you the biggest names in the electronic dance music industry to perform live, in our backyard. Interesting to note that South Africa was the only country to host an Ultra festival in 2020 prior to the world going into lockdown and while the world has slowly opened up and eased restrictions since March this year, most of the festivals in the Americas and Europe had us suffering with major FOMO while we sat and watched them on the live streams so you can only imagine how much us locals are raring to go!

Ultra SA 2023 in its 8th edition will be hosted in the two host cities as normal, starting with Cape Town on the 10th of March 2023, at a new venue of Kenilworth Racecourse and the following day, March 11th in Johannesburg at the Expo Centre in Nasrec. Tickets are on sale now, via the official website, www.ultrasouthafrica.com with tier 1 tickets selling out fast for both venues! So avoid disappointment and register for your Ultra Passport now!

Ultra South Africa: Park & Ride

Planning on going to Ultra South Africa next week? Why bother driving and risk sitting in traffic or trying to find parking, because the Ultra Family have your back with exclusive park and ride facilities at minimal costs! Ultra SA have teamed up with Zeelo to provide shuttle services between the venue and designated parking areas in and around the city, most of them being shopping malls. It's the easier and less stressful way of getting to Ultra SA and you can sit back, get the party going on your trip there for just R200 for Zeelo or R160 for Park and Ride.

Ultra SA Johannesburg also has a new opening time, gates will officially open at 12pm for the very first time, so 2020 party goers can start the festivities earlier and avoid the long queuing process that many have been plagued with in the past. All early entrants will receive a free Budweiser on arrival (while stocks last), also parking at NASREC will be free for all early arrivals. This is just one of a few ways organizers are doing to curb the traffic nightmares.

So first up, how do you get there? Well parking is limited and if you're planning on having a few Corona's while you're there, driving is a no no, hence the organisers have arranged shuttles with Zeelo, with pick up and drop off points in Umhlanga and Durban North, for more information on this, check the ticketing website to book your shuttle now.

Next up, the do's and don't and what to bring and what not to bring. The last thing we want is for you to bring a whole bunch of stuff that won't be allowed, so read up! Also there's a list of what you can bring with, so if you're not sure about something, you can check the list to see if its A-okay.

At the festival, the organisers have tried to make things as easy as possible for you, so for payments they're using cashless transactions via your wrist band thanks to Howler. You will be able to load credit onto your bands, then whether you're buying drinks at one of the many bars, or some of the great food on offer at the food village, simply scan your band and you're good to go!

With a host of artists ready to perform, be sure not to miss your favourite by saving this set list with all the time slots of the various Dj's. That way you won't be standing around have a snack while your favourite DJ is doing their thing.

Lastly, we got a site map of the festival grounds, so you know exactly where everything is, another handy thing to save to your phone so you can navigate around on the day. Can't find your mates? Whip out the map, ask them where they are and go find them! Can't find the toilets? They're on the map too!

Corona SunSets Festival - Durban Support Acts

As most of you already know, Corona SunSets Festival is hitting the East Coast of South Africa for the first time at the end of September this year, with international head line act Robin Schulz being at the helm, he is to be joined by some phenomenal local support acts who will set the SunSet scene and get the hype going until Robin hits the stage. Today we're going to bring you some background on some of the artist that will be performing at the Shongweni Polo Club on the 29th of September.

First up on that lineup is Lady Zamar, bringing some femininity to the stage and representing SA house music with her high-energy stage performance, no doubt including her current number 1 'Collide'.  Next up we have everyone's favourite, the Big Dawg of house music in SA, DJ Fresh! His rhythmic beats is loved world over and he definitely needs no introduction. Another local act that needs no introduction locally is Good Luck, Jules and the boys have been making some fresh new music and cannot wait to share it with the crowds in KZN.

Probably one of the hottest names in the SA circuit at the moment, Timo ODV, he is a multi-talented superstar, and his music if proof of it. Local crooner Matthew Mole will join him and the rest of the lineup with his very SunSet mix of sexy and chill, bringing the crowd closer to the magical SunSet mandala moment.

Black Motion may have made it big internationally but are proudly homegrown and their African-inspired house music will stand out amongst even the talented cast and their set is surely one not to be missed. Then we have SAMA-Award winning DJ Kent who will be bringing his blend of vocal-infused house music to the stage. Joining him is Congalese superstar, Tresor who brings the cool to the stage with his tropical sounding set, perfect for any SunSet Moment.

For those who have never been to a Corona SunSets festival before, the stage is a giant mandala which illuminates in various colours and lights as the sun goes down, a sight to be hold as you revel in the music. Riaad Moosa - Life Begins Tour

South Africa's favourite Doctor come comedian is back with another tour that is sure to leave the audiences in stitches!....of laughter, not the medical type. In his latest show, 'Life Begins', Riaad explores the myth of the saying "Life Begin's at 40", in a hilarious one man show which is a snapshot into his life as a 40 year old, a father of three kids, husband, comedian, actor and with all the current cultural and political issues thrown in.

Having already treated sold-out crowds in Johannesburg and Cape Town, the next leg of his tour see's him visiting Rustenburg, Newcastle, Durban and Empangeni from the 21st of October.

"Even though I am now 40, in many ways, I feel like I'm still crawling and I'm looking back at my journey from being an aspirational doctor, coming from a relatively conservative Muslim background, where both of my parents were doctors, and how I actually journeyed to becoming a stand-up comedian" - says Riaad

Being a qualified Doctor, Riaad has spent most of his life treating people with laughter on stage and in doing so he has won many awards for his stand-up, acting, writing and presenting. He has built his reputation to be one of South Africa's most popular and acclaimed funny men. His jokes serve as a remedy for the nations ill's.

"The show is very philosophical and existential. It involves the normal issues of getting older while at the same time experiencing, at a maturity where I'm supposed to be wise, a world that is completely turned on its head - with Trump, with Brexit; In South Africa, the 'State Capture', 'Fees Must Fall, 'DOOM'. And it's about how I negotiate all these things happening around me while trying to maintain a positive attitude. Through my comedic lends, I hope to put a different spin on that and hopefully my next 40 years will be lived with renewed vigour and excitement" _ Moosa added

To make sure you get your prescription of laughter with Riaad Moosa's side splitting funny one-man show, Life Begins, at the following venues around South Africa:

  • 21 October (20h00) - Rustenburg Civic Centre, Rustenburg
  • 4 November (20h00) - Blackrock Casino, Newcastle
  • 10, 11, 12 November (20h00) - The Playhouse Theatre, Durban
  • 18 November (20h00) - Umfolozi Hotel Casino and Convention Centre Resort, Empangeni
Tickets from R150 and are now on sale at Computicket online and outlets.
