Corona Sunsets Festival Guide - Durban 2018

With Durban's first Corona Sunsets Festival taking place tomorrow, we thought we'd bring you a quick guide on what to expect at the event, the do's and don'ts, the line-up, and some other FAQ's that could be bugging the minds of many whom purchased tickets for tomorrow. So first up, how do you get there? Well parking is limited and if you're planning on having a few Corona's while you're there, driving is a no no, hence the organisers have arranged shuttles with Zeelo, with pick up and drop off points in Umhlanga and Durban North, for more information on this, check the ticketing website to book your shuttle now.

Next up, the do's and don't and what to bring and what not to bring. The last thing we want is for you to bring a whole bunch of stuff that won't be allowed, so read up! Also there's a list of what you can bring with, so if you're not sure about something, you can check the list to see if its A-okay.

At the festival, the organisers have tried to make things as easy as possible for you, so for payments they're using cashless transactions via your wrist band thanks to Howler. You will be able to load credit onto your bands, then whether you're buying drinks at one of the many bars, or some of the great food on offer at the food village, simply scan your band and you're good to go!

With a host of artists ready to perform, be sure not to miss your favourite by saving this set list with all the time slots of the various Dj's. That way you won't be standing around have a snack while your favourite DJ is doing their thing.

Lastly, we got a site map of the festival grounds, so you know exactly where everything is, another handy thing to save to your phone so you can navigate around on the day. Can't find your mates? Whip out the map, ask them where they are and go find them! Can't find the toilets? They're on the map too!

That is all you should need to know about tomorrows Corona Sunsets Festival taking place at the Shongweni Polo Club. If you are heading out there, be safe, be responsible and most importantly, have a blast!

Corona SunSets Durban 2018 - Win Tickets!

Corona SunSets Festival - Durban Support Acts

As most of you already know, Corona SunSets Festival is hitting the East Coast of South Africa for the first time at the end of September this year, with international head line act Robin Schulz being at the helm, he is to be joined by some phenomenal local support acts who will set the SunSet scene and get the hype going until Robin hits the stage. Today we're going to bring you some background on some of the artist that will be performing at the Shongweni Polo Club on the 29th of September.

First up on that lineup is Lady Zamar, bringing some femininity to the stage and representing SA house music with her high-energy stage performance, no doubt including her current number 1 'Collide'.  Next up we have everyone's favourite, the Big Dawg of house music in SA, DJ Fresh! His rhythmic beats is loved world over and he definitely needs no introduction. Another local act that needs no introduction locally is Good Luck, Jules and the boys have been making some fresh new music and cannot wait to share it with the crowds in KZN.

Probably one of the hottest names in the SA circuit at the moment, Timo ODV, he is a multi-talented superstar, and his music if proof of it. Local crooner Matthew Mole will join him and the rest of the lineup with his very SunSet mix of sexy and chill, bringing the crowd closer to the magical SunSet mandala moment.

Black Motion may have made it big internationally but are proudly homegrown and their African-inspired house music will stand out amongst even the talented cast and their set is surely one not to be missed. Then we have SAMA-Award winning DJ Kent who will be bringing his blend of vocal-infused house music to the stage. Joining him is Congalese superstar, Tresor who brings the cool to the stage with his tropical sounding set, perfect for any SunSet Moment.

Closing off the night we have two Durban natives, with Memeza hitmaker Benny Maverick and DJ Bashkar who round off the event beautifully, ending the day/night on a memorable note. Yes, you read right, Corona SunSets is coming to KZN and tickets are already selling fast! Having been to the first event at Cape Town, I can honestly vouch for this one, being one of the best parties I've been to in a long time. Ultra South Africa 2016 - Final line up!

The final line up for Ultra South Africa 2016 has been released and it includes some big heavy weights of the industry. Many of the artist that have been announced in phase 2 have already visited SA and played at previous Ultra festivals, so people who missed out before can revel in their presence.

The festival which takes place in South Africa form the 26th of February till the 28th next year in two of the major cities. Cape Town will play host to the two day event at the Ostrich Farm on the 27th and 28th and Johannesburg, at Nasrec Expo center from the 26th to the 27th of February.

Some were disappointed with the line up, including myself but one has go to understand that planning an event like this, getting artist to confirm to travel to another end of the world for a few days isn't easy. So I applaud the organisers for securing big names like these and obviously the sets aren't going to be the same as the previous ones.

Afrojack, Tiesto and Carnage join Skrillex, Zedd, Dash Berlin and Robin Schulz to headline this awesome line up for the 2016 event. Amongst them will be a host of local talent that will keep the crowd entertained during the day on the various stages. Dean Fuel, Euphonik, Goldfish, TimoODV, Pascal & Peace just to name a few.

Tickets are on sale via the website, www.ultrasouthafrica.com, for more information on camping venues for the Cape Town festival and other info you may need to know, follow the various social media streams on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

Ultra South Africa 2016: Phase 1 headliners

Today all day Ultra will be releasing their Phase 1 artist line up for next years 3 day show piece that hits South Africa. With Ultra having already announced that both Cape Town and Johannesburg were going to be two day festivals, excitement levels across the country sky rocketed and with the Phase 1 line due to be announced today, ticket purchasers waited in anticipation to see if their favourite DJ was announced to play next year. Since 7.15am on DJ Fresh's morning show, 5FM have been unveiling the international headliners that will play at next years event. So far, fans have not been disappointed with 3 big names in the industry being announced.

Anton Igorevich Zaslavki, better known by his stage name Zedd is no stranger to the Ultra Music Festival scene as he's been lighting up the stage in Miami for a while now. Having also performed at Ultra Europe this year, this would be the multi award winning artist first trip to the African continent. Fans may know him by his previous hits, "Find You" featuring Matthew Korma, "Stay the night" featuring Hayley Williams, "Clarity" featuring Foxes and most recently "I want you to know" featuring his love interest, Selena Gomez. The Russian-German producer is sure to wow the crowds next year.

Another German joins the fray for Ultra South Africa 2016, this time its DJ and producer Robin Schulz. He's been around for a few years now with many remixes of various songs along the years, but it's only recently that he's been getting his solo stuff noticed. His latest single "Sugar" featuring Frencesco Yates has been a firm favourite on the 5FM playlists.

It wasn't that big of a secret that Dash Berlin was coming to SA next year which the Dutch trance DJ letting it slip on his Facebook page that he will be coming to South Africa in February 2016. There was doubt on whether it would be a for a solo tour or with Ultra but now that that speculation has been put to bed, Ultra goers can look forward to him killing it at the festival next year. I'm a firm fan of Dash and his remix of Zedd's Find You is still one of my favourite tracks.

If you haven't heard of them before, you probably heard some of their music as they've been dominating 5FM of recent with their hit single Runaway, better known as U & I. The Swedish electronic duo Galantis made up of Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklow make their Ultra SA debut in 2016 and are bound to rock the crowds with songs from their 2015 album, Pharmacy.

Ultra's second stage has been announced as well today, dubbed "Resistance", fans can catch acts such as American duo the Martinez Brothers, Seth Troxler and SA's very own Black Coffee tearing it up on there.

The last of the International artist headliners has been announced for Phase 1, and its none other than Skrillex! The American producer is no stranger to SA with him having toured the country before to sell out crowds. His style is unique and while many associate it to dubstep, he tends to disagree and calls it a different style of hard electro. Whatever its's called, we like it and you can look forward to it next year Feb!

Don't forget, Advanced Ticket sales open tomorrow and are only available from www.ultrasouthafrica.com. Sign Up and get yours first thing tomorrow, because trust me you do not want to miss out on next years Ultra! You can follow all the updates on their official Twitter  (@UltraSA), Facebook (Ultra South Africa) or Instagram (ultrasouthafrica) accounts.

Bucket Babe: Vivienne Waibel

We're halfway through the year already and deep in the clutches of winter, as the country prepares for another cold spell to hit our shores we've been working endlessly to scour the land for the hottest ladies to feature and to warm us up. Today's featured beauty is from the Cape but has German heritage. She is extremely qualified and from that is very passionate about education to our countries less fortunate. She has a soft spot for animals of all kinds and shapes, and currently obsessed about Nutella. She sounds like our kind of girl, here's more about her.

Vivienne Waibel

Bio
I am originally from Germany but my mother side of the family is South African. I went to school in Joburg and after that completed my Honours in Developmental Studies at UCT. Currently, I am doing my Masters in Health Economics. If I had to choose between a baby and a puppy, I would choose a puppy. I love animals and I have a horse back home in Germany but really I love any kind of animal, ranging from horses to snakes, to snails... lol. I am also modelling and have just come back from an overseas trip to India. Modelling overseas is such an adventure! I would recommend ti to anyone that has got the opportunity to go. I was lucky to have an amazing agency in India, "TOABH" which made the culture shock a very pleasant experience. In Cape Town my agency is Faith Models and they are amazing, I love each and every single one  of my bookers. I am not very domesticated at all and urgently need to learn how to cook, I most survive of Pasta, Nutella pancakes and fruit, hence I certainly don't believe in low carb myths. To compensate for the carb overload, you can find me at the Yoga Life in De Waterkant where I try to hang out most days of the week. During my time at UCT I also actively participated in the SHAWCO outreach programme, where I taught High School children. I firmly believe in Mandela's quote: "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world"! And I wish our government would do more to give every child the opportunity to receive the best education possible.

During my teaching experience, I found that while so much emphasis is being placed on Maths and Science skills, a lot of the students actually struggled with a language barrier, coming from a Xhosa, Zulu, or other African language background. As a result, a lot of them struggle to understand complex concepts in Maths and Science when they are being taught to them in English. Thus, one of my personal goals would be to find an outreach program that teaches kids Maths and Science skills in their mother tongue.

Q&A

1. Hot girls and hot cars go hand in hand, what ride would you like to see yourself in?
  • Anything that is not on the top 10 most hijacked car list. However, if I really had to choose, I would go for the Aston Martin DB9, I find the design beautiful!
2. What sandwich are you most likely to make for me? and will it be toasted or plain?
  • My latest obsession is Nutella, so I will make you Nutella and Banana toast.
3. Everyone loves popcorn (well I think they do) what is your topping/ sprinkle of choice?
  • Butter and salt is over-rated! I would definitely go for M&M's. In Germany frosted popcorn is quite big, I'm not sure why it's not available here (hint hint ster kinekor and nu metro)
4. Dream cover shoot?
  • That's quite a tough question, there are a whole lot of magazines I would like to be on, from Vogue to Harpers Bazar, but let's keep it local, Cosmopolitan SA.

5. If given a choice, full time model or full time executive, what would you choose?
  • I'm going to say a mixture of both. Both have their ups and downs
6. Growing up you must have had someone you aspired to be, so who is your role model?
  • My mom. She has inspired me from day one and I can be a fraction of the person she is I would have succeeded in life.
7. Anyone holding that hand yet? or is it available?
  • I'm engaged! So excited for the wedding =D
8. Obviously being a female you would love fashion. Favourite label/ designer?
  • My closet consists of Zara & Topshop. But my favourite local designer is probably Gavin Rajah.
9. What type of music gets your booty shaking?
  • Robin Schulz, "Shake it off!" (Taylor Swift) haha!
10. Which city is your dream party destination?
  • Of late I've been having the best nights in London ("Cirque le Soir" in Soho) and Goa (India) made for a few memorable nights too, but my dream destination for partying will have to be New York. It has both the chic and urban kind of nightlife, so it will allow for a nice change up every now and then.
