Monday Choon: Armin van Buuren & Hardwell - Follow The Light

It feels like dance music fans have waited an eternity for this one, Armin first dropped this one at Ultra Miami back in March. Since then, both him and Hardwell have been dropping it in their sets all over the world but kept us waiting for the official release. Well, last week Friday they finally released it and it was worth it. Following their 2015 collaboration 'Off the Hook', which became a global hit with over 100 million streams, the two superstars fuse their respective styles once again, blending Armin's signature euphoric trance melodies with Hardwell's cutting-edge big-room techno to deliver a powerful festival anthem that will undeniably thrill fans. Already a popular track in both artists' sets throughout 2024, the legendary pair teased the collaboration earlier this year during a special back-to-back set at A State of Trance Rotterdam, sparking a frenzy of excitement from fans both at the event and online.

Monday Choon: Pete Shade - What You Wanna Be

Polish producer and DJ, Piotr Suchozebrski, otherwise known as Pete Shade has been bubbling under the surface of the EDM and house scene since 2019, with a few tracks released on Hardwell's Revealed Records is slowly beginning to get some traction onto the mainstream scene with his latest track "What You Wanna Be" featuring on a few podcasts over the past week. The track has that classic European trance style with the vocals that just encapsulate it all together in a extremely enjoyable and melodic track.

Monday Choon: Hardwell & Machine Made - Human

HARDWELL has been enjoying a great come back to live shows from Ultra, to Tomorrowland and Parookaville to name a few. He's been teasing the audiences with new music during his sets and he just dropped one of his tracks a couple of days ago, a song that he did in collaboration with Machine Made, titled "Human". If it sounds familiar to you, its because the original was done by The Killers, back in 2008. The powerful release samples the original vocals from the 2008 anthem ‘Human’ and reinvents them around a braggadocious beat. The single is a tour de force of hard-hitting synth lines and pummelling drums, while the original melody is weaved amongst the penultimate crescendo. The result is an awe-inspiring future rave anthem that seamlessly fuses the familiarity of the original lyrics with a ferocious sonic landscape.

Monday Choon: Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding - Miracle (Hardwell Remix)

When Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding team up, they don't make music, they make magic. Their latest collaboration titled "Miracle" is proof of that. Released a few weeks ago the track has already started sky rocketing up the charts and getting rave reviews. This past weekend they performed the track live to a massive Coachella crowd, but it wasn't the original but rather the Hardwell Remix. Robbert has taken this track and elevated it to the trance sound we know and love from him, yet still retaining the core tune of the track. It's perfectly done and definitely one that's going to be headlining the summer festivals in Europe and the USA.

Monday Choon: Hardwell - ZERO GRAVITY

Robbert van de Corput, better known as Hardwell was one of those DJ's we didn't hear much from during the dark days of lockdown, but this wasn't to say he wasn't busy cooking up some new work for us because since late he's been dropping bombs and his return to live shows proved that his work during lockdown was worth waiting for and to experience live in person rather than an online stream. He's been killing in the festival space, starting from his return to stage last year, to Ultra in Miami and most recently Tomorrowland and we have one of his latest works, Zero Gravity on the blog this week. While there are other tracks that he's released, I think this track personifies the man the best, and lives up to his name Hardwell, dropping that hard notes, from the bassline to the synths. It's a proper song that starts with a launch which leads to pure electronic mayhem, this track and the others he has released form part of his new album Rebels Never Die.

Ultra South Africa 2018 - Review

Celebrating it's 5th Anniversary in South Africa, Ultra Worldwide was bound to put on a music spectacular that would leave festival goers in awe of what they had witnessed. Having attended the Johannesburg leg myself, I can tell you first hand that not only did this years Ultra break records but it certainly set them for years to come!

On February 10, Nasrec Expo Center opened it's gates to over 32,000 revelers, it a set-up much bigger and better than other years, crowds had easier access to bars, food stalls and ablution facilities, also with the introduction of cashless systems again, it made buying refreshments and food all that more easier. There was however reports of long queues to enter the venue, with some people having to wait almost two hours to get in. Organisers have yet to comment on what the delay could have been caused by.

With 4 stages for attendee's to choose from, showcasing the various artists, international and local, people were spoiled for choice. With good reason though, the Main stage was the center of attraction to many. With LED Screens decorated with lasers, blinders, pyrotechnics and streamers, combined with the hottest DJ's in the world, would you blame anyone from not wanted to leave their spot? It all kicked off with the local DJ's, of home FeU and TimoODV were standouts, then came on the first International act, Carnage who did what his name says and got the crowd going with his hardstyle music. While Afrojack and Hardwell played great sets, the stand out for me had to be Armin. The man isn't rated as one of the best DJ's of all time for nothing. His set was a combination of music and lighting which got the crowd into a state of trance. He was also joined on stage in a surprise performance by Mr Probz, where performed their collaboration track "Another You" and "Waves". The night on the Main Stage ended with Axwell /\ Ingrosso, who captivated their crowd with some of their old Swedish House Mafia tracks as well as many of their new stuff as a duo. The stand-out was definitely their current hit track "More than you know" which had the crowd belting out the chorus.

.The Resistance stage was back again to please the many deep house fans that made the journey and it did not disappoint! This year saw the dance floor being moved into a new warehouse space at Nasrec which catered specifically to the house and techno community. Local artist which included the likes of Da Capo, DogStarr, Ryan Murgatroyd, TranceMicSoul and many more heated the floor up before the mega stars took to the decks. Local and global sensation, Black Coffee got on to raptures from the crowd before Dubfire and Eats Everything blew the fans away with their hypnotic performances.

"Ultra SA brings new surprises each year and this year was no exception. It also brings new magic each time we produce the show, and 2018 was the most magical yet. Speaking on behalf of the full Ultra SA team and sponsors, we are blown away by the support of the fans and industry and cannot wait to see what 2019 brings." said Shaun Duvet after the 48 hour music spectacular which took place in the two cities.

We will be releasing our very own after movie of Ultra SA 2018 soon, so be on the look out for it on our instagram page!

Monday Choon: Hardwell & KSHMR - Power (Ultra SA Artist Feature)

With less that 3 weeks to go to the continents biggest electronic dance festival, we have decided to bring to you in the lead up to the event, features of the various headlining artist. Today we have Dutch DJ and Producer sensation Hardwell! Better known to his close family as Robbert van de Corput, he hails from Breda in the Netherlands. He started off by remixing tracks and then progressed by making his own, with Spaceman back in 2013 that really got the worlds attention. He was then vote number DJ in the world by DJ Mag for 2013 and 2014. Now he finds himself as one of the world's most sort after DJ's and has his own record label and radio show.

Today's track of Hardwell's see's him team up with American DJ and producer, KSHMR, in the track titled "Power". It see's the two DJ's, each with their own unique interpenetration of hard style trance, merge their talents and the end product is quite cool. The track has a vocal backing to it, which also helps their two styles and brings the track together quite well.  We can't wait to see this Dutch legend back on our shores in February and I'm sure you can't too!

Monday Choon: Hardwell ft. Jolin Tsai - We Are One

It's been a while since we heard from the former number one DJ in the world, Hardwell's style is quite unique and has been missed but he is back with some fresh music and even dabbling in his hard style roots of recent but that's better left for another blog post. This weeks featured track from the talented Dutch producer see's him team up with Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai for their track "We Are One". It's a great track with the right energy for the drop and in true Hardwell style is carries through and keeps you wanting more. The video we have has been posted by the man himself but he has noted that this is not the official music video but  the song is so fresh we had to feature it in any case.

Ultra Music Festival 2017

It's been 2 weeks since Miami was taken over by the sounds of Electronic, Dance and House music, Miami Music Week 2017 proved to be as usual, bigger and better than the years before and headlining this international acclaimed music event was Ultra Music Festival which has been a firm favourite for many fans of the genre's over the years. Ultra really has been the one music festival that set standards for every other one around the globe and since grown and now finds itself being taken around the world in various countries.

Coming back to the Miami event, the line up was endless and the stages were insane to say the least. You practically had the top 100 DJ's in the world all in one place over one weekend, playing their hottest and latest tracks to crowds of thousands. The lighting and pyrotechnics display that go into the event is next level crazy, even though it is already one of the most highly rated music events in the world, the organizers still go out of their way to make every year bigger and better. It saw a host of new releases from various DJ's and the sets at Ultra are always worth a watch, UMF have released all of the DJ sets to the respective DJ's, all of which were uploaded in HD and we have as link to all of them for you to watch! I've selected some of my favourites for you to watch below.

Monday Choon: Hardwell feat. Jay Sean - Thinking About You

Jay Sean, the British pop singer debuted in the early 2000's and his major rise to fame happened a little while after that, but for the past 5 years or so he's been relatively quiet and quite frankly many forgot about him. Not sure if Hardwell was in the UK and bumped into Jay doing ballad's at a bar or something but the two of them teamed up for this week's featured track. "Thinking About You" has been out since late October and I've watch the video a few times now, I really like the track. It's something different from bought artist, with Hardwell known for his hard style trance and Jay more of the RnB pop variety so for the two of them it must have been a bit of adjustment but they sort of found a nice middle ground for the track. It's quite catch and has a great music video.

Monday Choon: Hardwell & Blasterjaxx - Going Crazy

Hardwell and Blasterjaxx are onto something with their new single, I think we're all going crazy but at least we can sing about it! The former number one DJ in the world, Robbert van de Corput better know as Hardwell teamed up with fellow Dutch DJ duo Thim Jongkind and Idir Makhlaf for this latest electronic collaboration. It's been out for about a week and I wasn't the biggest fan of it when it was released but have to admit it has been growing on me and is sure to be a track for the summer.

Monday Choon: Hardwell feat. Jake Reese - Run Wild

Hardwell is back, good and proper with his latest track featuring Jake Reese. The sounds are more of his original work so hardcore fans of the former number one DJ/ producer will be loving this one. The official music video for the song was released last week and as always we have it for you today. Jake Reese provides the vocals on this one and it has been quite popular on most of the podcast of recent as well as hitting the heights in the Beatport charts.

Monday Choon: Hardwell & Dannic feat. Haris - Survivors

The song has been out for a while now but the official music video was dropped last month. It's the first time Hardwell and Dannic have teamed up to produce a track and judging by it's success so far, they should do it more often. The music video for the song was shot in South America with some of it being in the mystical Amazon rain forest. It follows a girl from a tribe in search of Hardwell and Dannic who she eventually finds at TomorrowWorld Brazil. Quite different from the norm and a nice little story to go with a great track.

Monday Choon: Hardwell ft. Harrison - Sally

If you were at Ultra South Africa a few weeks back you would have heard Hardwell playing this new track of his featuring Harrison, if not you probably will hear the radio stations pumping this on out on the airwaves quite regularly as its been play listed into most of the shows. It's something new from Hardwell, bringing a mix of EDM and Rock together, so far, people seem to like it. A Few years back Avicii tried his own hybrid of genre's by fusing Country Music with his Dance music and with that abomination of "music" lost himself many fans, including myself, I hope Hardwell is just experimenting and doesn't see this as a way to get rich quickly, and kill his music into the commercial segment like ol Avicii did. I like this track, its got the right mix of rock and is a nice track to listen to, hence it's featured today. Plus the girl in the video kinda looks like Charne Jade Slee.... or is it just me?

Relive Ultra 2015

It's been almost a week since Ultra South Africa came and knocked us off our feet and into the air in a a frenzy of song and dance. Bigger, better and more louder than 2014, this years event sure did not disappoint. Cape Town kicked off proceedings with an Ultra exclusive event hosted by Uber which saw a select few who have the Uber app and were quick on the button, go on a sunset party cruise with Goldfish, Oliver Heldens and Martin Garrix. Seeing videos and pictures from the cruise made everyone who wasn't there extremely jealous but we had the next two days to party with those legends and thousands of others.

Cape Town's show saw an increase in numbers since last year and everyone was blown away from the performances but since I and the many others were going for the Joburg leg, we had to wait one more day to experience the greatness that is Ultra South Africa. Gates opened 11am sharp, with scores of people starting to trickle in, many already having attended pre-ultra parties and were psyched to start the celebrations. With 3 stages and endless amounts of talent ranging from local to top listed internal DJ's, it was bound to be an incredible day no matter what form of electronic music you fancied.

The UMF Radio stage seemed to be place to be for early goers as the area was packed to catch the on stage DJ's but as the hours went by and the numbers came pouring in by the thousands, the place filled up. Whether you were in General, VIP, VVIP or back stage like some of us, the vibe and energy was amazing to experience. On the main stage Rodger Goode, Goldfish, FeU and Mark Stent warmed the crowd up with their mixtures of local electronic, house and tribal music until the first headliner hit the stage.

Oliver Heldens, the youngster from the Netherlands came onto raptures from the crowd, having never played in SA before, Ultra SA Jhb leg was his second time and the ovation he received was well deserved. Following him saw Canadian dance music duo brothers Chris and Alex Andre, better known as DVBBS (pronounced dubz) come on, the live interaction between them and the crowd was something to behold with many rating them as their favourites from the day.

As the sun began to set and the air began to cool, the entertainment started to heat up with a repeat from last year taking to the decks. Martin Garrix has been sensational over the past few years in the EDM scene, producing hit after hit and climbing up the DJ Mag list as well as beatport lists, it no wonder why many who have been in the industry for a while now hold him in such high regard. The kid is a talent and he proved again, with another mind blowing set, coupled with pyro's and laser lights. He sent the crowd into a frenzy when he played his latest hit featuring Moti, "Virus".

With the sun completely gone and the crowd amped, it was time for the number DJ in the world to make his mark on the number 1 dance music festival on the continent. Hardwell who last toured the country back in Decemeber 2012 was back with a bang. With plenty of new work and some crowd favourite oldies, it was exceptional set for the guy who's ranked above them all in the world for two years in a row now. Having seen the best in the business, you would think it would be hard to top that but step in the legend of Trance, the one, the only, Armin van Buuren.

Fresh from his ASOT700 world tour, Armin just went to prove that no matter what number he's ranked, he is still one of the best in the world. With his uplifting beats, 3D electronic show and his new stage trick where he controls the lights with the movements of his hands, left the crowd spell bound. He played most of his new work and towards the end brought out some classics that have been re-worked, most notably his mashup of Exploration of Space by Cosmic Gate and Andrew Rayel's remix of Insomia by Faithless. It's probably one of the best sets I've heard from Armin, to see him on stage, in his element, doing what he does best to please us, his fans was unreal.

Feet aching, back breaking from walking around the whole day from the media tent to the various stages, we had to muster up energy for one final act on the mainstage but while Axwell and Ingrosso took time for their stage setup, some of us made our way down tot he Electric Music Stage to catch the opening 30 minutes of Gorgon City, many felt they deserved their own time slot on main stage but can see why the organisers decided to let them close off things on that side of the park, With hits such as "Real", "here for you" and many adoring SA fans, there was quite a crowd to see them play.

With the stage finally ready and the voice of Ultra Damian Pinto ready to introduce them, it was time for the lass stage act of the night. Axwell and Ingrosso have joined forces again after the break of up Swedish House Mafia, whether they'll go onto the same success as they did when Steve Angello was still part of the group remains to be seen but they are heading in the right direction. Their set, although consisting a lot from their SHM days was phenomenal and for me having missed the SHM tour, sort of made up for it. Axwell, true to his nature grabbed the mic and got the crowd going, it was a great way to close off what has been an amazing 14 hours of music ecstasy. The crowd begged for more after their set seemed to have ended and they responded with probably their greatest SHM hit, "Dont you worry child" , an amazing fireworks display to end off saw the thousands that made their way to Nasrec that day leave with a massive smile on their face knowing that they were part of something special and already at the back of their mind, planning next years visit.

Big thanks to Electric Music, AmpliconPR, Ultra South Africa and SMG Rocks for making this trip for me possible. See you guys next year for Ultra SA 2016!

Ultra 2015

As the days go by, we're creeping ever closer to 2015 and with it brings anticipation of the Ultra 2015. It was with out a doubt the biggest dance festival SA has seen to date and next years show promises to be bigger and better. Last week the organisers released Phase One of the international DJ headliners and just like this year, some big names were announced. Three out of the five are featured in DJ Mag's Top 5 DJ's for 2014 so you know they're not slacking on getting just any DJ to headline the event, here are the 5.

Hardwell
Number 1 DJ in the world for the second year in a row, he toured SA last year December to sellout crowds around the country and after see him play, I can see why he is ranked at the top. Professional at what he does and creates some great music.

Martin Garrix
One of the stand out DJ's from this years event, Martin Garrix is coming back to rock our crowds. The young disc jockey sensation was recently boosted up the rankings to number 4 in the DJ Mag Top 100 list, a major achievement given his age and time in the industry.

Armin van Buuren
He is a legend in his own right, with his record label, Amarda Music being one of the biggest in electronic music and his radio show A State Of Trance having gone through the years, just growing bigger and bigger. He has done so much for electronic and trance music, helping younger DJ's come through his ranks and turning them into superstars. I personally can't wait to see his set.

Axwell Λ Ingrosso
They made up two thirds of the award winning Swedish House Mafia, good friends Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso have teamed up once again and are coming back to our country. I'm sure die hard SHM fans will be happy to see this duo as it is probably the closest thing we will see to the now non existent Mafia.

Some of the local artists that were also announced in the phase one line up include, Goldfish, Protoculture, Pascal & Pearce, Euphonik, Rodger Goode, DJ Kent and Black Coffee. So far that is an incredible line up and there is still more to come! So keep an eye out on this blog for more info related to the upcoming Ultra South Africa.

Early bird tickets were sold out in a matter of days and public tickets have just gone on sale now, so don't hesitate or they might get sold out! Visit www.ultrasouthafrica.com for more info on ticket purchase or buy them direct from computicket.
